Do you know this popular dish also has a super cool nickname?! 🔥

Belacan Mixed Beans, also known as "Four Heavenly Kings" (四大天王）comprises of four types of vegetables, namely brinjal, long beans, okra and stink beans (petai). 🍆🥬

The name of the dish may scream royalty, but the truth is, the taste of the dish itself does live up to its name. Stir-fried and served with spicy sambal belacan, the finished dish has a strong & unique pungent smell & is colourful with pops of orange and green. ✨

Peranakan and Nyonya cuisine is a unique blend of Chinese, Malay and other Southeast Asian cultures. It originates from Chinese immigrants, who in the 15th century moved to the regions we now know as Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia, blending influences and cooking traditions. ✨

Here are 3 fun facts about this delightful cuisine!

1. Lots of love, time & care 💕needed to make Nyonya food - High levels of patience and preparation needed due to the long hours of the marinating process and the preparation of spices.

2. A typical Nyonya dish can incorporate up to 40 different spices 🍁 - Nyonya cuisine is known for being highly flavourful – precisely because so many different ingredients are used in each dish!

3. Nyonya food + Non-Halal + Alcohol 🍻= Chuck Two Sons - Our own take on Peranakan food involves a lot of porky dishes (disclaimer: we have many non pork dishes as well) and a lot of beer, wine & cocktails, which is not very common these days!
