You have definitely tasted this distillery. You have just never seen its name.

North British has been quietly filling Johnnie Walker and Famous Grouse since 1885. It makes tens of millions of litres a year and puts its name on none of it. Grain whisky is the ghost writer of Scotch, doing the work while the malts take the interviews. So when Douglas Laing pulls one single cask, lets it mature for 33 years, finishes it in a PX sherry butt and hand fills 674 bottles, that is the ghost writer finally publishing under their own name.

Sweetly spiced redcurrants and blackberry on the nose, then a palate like burnt brioche drowned in honey, closing on toffee apples and pear candy that hangs around longer than our last customers. 48.6%, natural cask strength, no colouring, no chill filtration. Distilled in 1988, which means this liquid is older than most of the people ordering it.

Bottle 421 of 674 is open at The Whisky Bar on Changkat. There is no second bottle coming.
