The Mixteca region is known for the work of these skilled weavers who produce many items. The palm that is used to create these items is called palma chapera. This palm is obtained from Oaxaca and is only harvested from the months November to April. It takes Juana's family 28 hours to travel to Oaxaca where the leaves are harvested. Once in their hometown in Oaxaca, the family walks two hours to t

he mountains where they cut the leaves and wait four days for the fronds to dry before returning to Nayarit. Once in Nayarit, Juana and her family weave intricate items by hand for their customers to enjoy!
