♥️Thank you, Punta Banda community♥️

Yesterday afternoon’s show came together in the end, and it truly was fun. If it turns out to be the only one I ever get to put together, I’m genuinely grateful that it happened at all. With multiple acts dropping out at the last minute, it was a real challenge to keep a positive attitude—but we did it, and we had a good time doing it. Thank you so much to everyone who showed up, supported the performers, and shared that afternoon with us. It meant a lot.

Today we had a second show for the folklórico kids, and I’ll be honest—we had maybe 20 people in the audience. That was disappointing, not because of ego or numbers, but because these kids worked hard and the show was really good. They deserve to be seen.

After the kids’ show today, I spent time with their dance instructor and her family over dinner. We talked about life, dancing, culture, and history — which is exactly what her group is about at its core. We also talked honestly about what happens when too many people try to run something that needs clear leadership. Too many cooks always ruin the broth. When outside voices, side agendas, and constant interference creep in, the work gets harder, not better. It was grounding to sit with someone who understands that from the inside.

We want people to want to come to performances, not to feel obligated or pressured.
At the same time, live community art only survives when the community shows up. These dancers put in real time, real effort, and real heart.

I also want to share that I have officially quit the theater. The board is not aligned on major decisions or long-term direction, and I will not remain in a leadership role where responsibility is placed on me without unified support or real authority. Two board positions are now open following recent resignations.

For anyone who has strong opinions about how this role should be done, the opportunity to step in is now open—resumes are welcome.

I intend to keep my public comments positive. However, if misinformation begins to circulate, I will correct the record with documentation.

To everyone who came, supported from afar, or has ever supported the arts in this community—thank you.

🎓💃 Celebrating Education, Partnership, and Pride at the Gertrude Pearlman Theatre 💃🎓

We are so proud to celebrate two incredible leaders from Folklórico Anáhuac — Gladys Cardenas, our dance teacher, on the completion of her MASTER’S degree in Education, and Laura Cecelia Hernandez, the group’s treasurer, on the completion of her MASTER’S degree in Business Administration.

As our board has continued getting to know Gladys, Laura, and the dancers more, we’ve come to truly appreciate the care, dedication, and professionalism they bring to their work and to their students. We are genuinely grateful for our partnership with Folklórico Anáhuac and for the beautiful cultural presence they share with our stage and our community.

At their recent Gala de Calaveras, Bobbie Jo Nichols-Cook had the opportunity to help support the event and was introduced to the magic and joy of the tiliche for the very first time. It was an unforgettable experience and a powerful reminder of the beauty of this cultural work.

We also want to celebrate that Bobbie Jo Nichols-Cook recently completed her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology–Criminal Justice, making this a meaningful moment of shared celebration for lifelong learning.

Education matters. Effort matters. And today, we are proud to celebrate Gladys Cardenas and Laura Cecelia Hernandez and the example they set.

Congratulations, Gladys and Laura — we are proud to partner with you both. ♥️🇲🇽♥️

¡Felicidades, Gladys y Laura! Estamos muy orgullosos de colaborar con ustedes. ♥️🇲🇽♥️
