OBITUARY WRITING CLASS

Thursday, April 2, 5-7 pm
At Mordidas, Manantial 375, Colonia Buenos Aires

This class is taught in English by Rick Hepting, who has written obituaries and movie and restaurant reviews for several small weekly newspapers in Northern California.

Without sounding too morbid, many are nearing the age of death but no one, I would venture, has prepared his or her obituary and will be leaving this very important tradition to another, someone who probably knows very little of their lives.

In this class we will examine several techniques of obituary creation and discuss what should or could be included - or not - in an obit.

We will write our own obits over glasses of wine, cups of coffee or ... We have a limited selection of drinks so BYOB if you wish.

Finally, we will share and discuss what we have written.
This is probably the most difficult writing you will ever do.

I occasionally served dim sum in my restaurant, Mordidas, and I used many bamboo steamers to prepare it. The used ones I am keeping. The ones being sold are unused. All were purchased in China Town in San Francisco, California about 10 years ago.

All are in excellent condition and of quality commercial construction.

All utilities are included - Electricity, water, gas, high speed fiber optic internet, smart TV with Roku.

Furnished. Full kitchen. All of the appliances are modern. Matrimonial size bed. Gas stove/oven, refrigerator, ceiling fans, microwave, instant water heater, wall safe. Everything works and is in good condition.

No air conditioning. No pool.

Ground floor. Private entrance. Working class, family neighborhood. Safe.

The decor is semi-modern Bohemian. It is comfortable and functional. It's small, approximately 550 sq ft / 50 sq m. It is big enough for only one person (and possibly a dog).

There are a few small taco stands across the street at night and ceviche and roasted chicken stands in the daytime. A new seafood restaurant and a small bakery are next door. A KIOSKO, 2 blocks away, is being reconstructed. The street is usually fairly busy from 8 am to midnight. There is street noise. It is as quiet as the river at night. The Rio Cuale is across the street.

The landlord lives in the same building and speaks English.

This is a talk, an exposition by Rick Hepting, an old, old cowboy botanist, a veteran of many years of growing and using rare and strange plants and Sarah Hepting, a not-so-old former commercial organic farmer.

Vallarta. It is necessary to climb 3 flights of stairs to the nursery.

Plants will be available for sale.
