Wakesurfing is a variant of the sport of wake boarding. The primary distinction between wakesurf and wakeboarding is that there is no rope involved in the former. As you all know, the rope or the cable plays a very important role in the sport of wakeboarding. However, this rope is practically absent as far as wakesurf is concerned

The sport may be a variant of wakeboarding. However, the absence of the rope and the close distance between the individual and the boat makes it a completely different sport.

Wakeboarding its a combination of water sky, surfing and snowboarding.
The sport is performed by using a wakeboard over the surface of water. This resembles a surfboard and is pulled behind a motorboat. As in water skiing, the rider is towed behind a boat at comparatively slower speed of 16-23mph with shorter ropes.

For the last 2 decades this sport has growing enormously bringing more and more fans every year and it has become one of the most important extreme sport in the world.
