Bob Mortimer isn’t just one of the most loved comedians in Britain — he’s also a genuine animal lover with a long history of supporting cats and cat welfare causes.
Many fans know Mortimer for his comedy and for Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing, but he’s also well known for his work with Cats Protection, the UK’s leading cat welfare charity. Mortimer has been a long-running supporter of the organisation and has helped raise awareness about the plight of homeless cats. He even visited the charity’s National Adoption Centre in Sussex to meet unwanted cats looking for new homes and to show his support in person. 
One of the loveliest bits of Bob’s work with Cats Protection has been his fun, quirky initiative of naming cats in need of homes. Mortimer began tweeting imaginative, romantic cat names — things like Tender Gary and Softy Pinkpowders — and these names were then turned into artwork and prints to raise funds for the charity. 
He’s a cat owner himself too, and has spoken about his own cats — Goodmonson and Mavis — describing them warmly and sharing how much he loves being around them. Mortimer said he’s always been a big cat lover and enjoys naming cats and giving them character, a small but meaningful way he helps unwanted cats stand out and find loving homes. 
Beyond fundraising, he’s also taken part in judging for Cats Protection’s National Cat Awards, using his profile to help the charity and celebrate the amazing cats and their humans. 
All of this shows a side of Bob that goes beyond the laughs. Yes, he’s one of the most loved comedians working today, but he’s also a man with a big heart and genuine kindness toward animals — especially our feline friends.
