I have had the pleasure to play with the Tito Puente Orchestra in the 90's. Here is a short excerpt of the concert where you see me on the okonkolo with Greg Askew on the itotele and Louis Bauzo on the iya.
Those three drums are called bata drums and are part of the afro-cuban folkloric tradition.
Those drums as well as their respective songs are now taught by Jerome Goldschmidt at the Conservatory of Luxembourg.
Emmanuel Baudry, another faculty member of the Latin Program, teaches further folkloric classes like arara, congo, abakua and rumba.
For more info about the classes or if you would like to sign up for the fall semester, please send us a message and we will get back to you asap!
Thanks! 😊
