Oceanpick Wins Sri Lankan Sustainability Award 2026 for Sustainable Blue Economy Initiative

Oceanpick has been named the Category Winner for the “Sustainable Blue Economy Initiative” at the Sri Lankan Sustainability Awards (SSA) 2026, presented at the 14th World Construction Symposium & Sri Lankan Sustainability Awards Ceremony 2026.

The recognition marks another significant milestone in Oceanpick’s journey as a pioneer in sustainable aquaculture and reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to developing a responsible and resilient blue economy in Sri Lanka.

The award recognises initiatives that demonstrate meaningful impact across four key areas: coastal and marine sustainability, sustainable resource management, environmental conservation impact, and contribution to community development.

As South Asia’s pioneering offshore ocean-based fish farm, located off the coast of Trincomalee, Oceanpick operates at the intersection of sustainable food production, marine stewardship and community development. The company’s approach to aquaculture is built around producing high-quality, responsibly farmed seafood while maintaining a strong commitment to protecting the marine environment and supporting the communities connected to its operations.

The company continues to demonstrate the role that sustainable aquaculture can play in strengthening food security, creating economic opportunities and contributing to the long-term development of Sri Lanka’s blue economy.

Winning the Sustainable Blue Economy Initiative category is an important recognition of these collective efforts and the dedication of Oceanpick’s employees, partners, stakeholders and communities.

The award further strengthens Oceanpick’s commitment to continuously advancing responsible aquaculture practices and demonstrating that commercial aquaculture can grow alongside environmental stewardship and positive social impact.
Oceanpick remains committed to its vision of contributing to a sustainable future by creating lasting value for the ocean, communities and generations to come.

Growing responsibly. Protecting our oceans. Building a sustainable blue economy.

Happy World Ocean Day! 🌊

This June 8th, we took our commitment to the ocean beyond our farm and into the hearts of the next generation.

We partnered with the Department of Forest Conservation, Trincomalee, Norlanka (Pvt) Ltd, and Trinco Timber & Hardware (Pvt) Ltd, joined hands with nearly 150 students and other participants for special ocean conservation awareness and beach cleanup session at Trinco Beach.

More than picking up waste, this was about planting a seed. Helping young minds understand why our oceans matter, and why each of us has a role in protecting them.

It was wonderful to be part of Clean Sri Lanka’s island-wide cleanup initiative, an effort that brought together many stakeholders, including the Sri Lanka Army, MEPA, Sri Lanka Scout Association, government officials, schools, NGOs, and private institutes, all working towards one shared goal.

Oceanpick contributed by donating empty feed bags to the initiative, giving them a second purpose as collection bags. These are now being used across 200+ collection sites island-wide to support community-led waste collection efforts and awareness sessions, helping protect the very ecosystems we all depend on.

At Oceanpick, sustainability goes beyond the ocean — it’s about protecting every shoreline connected to it 🌊

Our latest cleanup at Koneshwapuri Beach, together with the Negombo Recycling Club and EUSL – Faculty of Communications and Business Studies, resulted in:
♻️ 25kg plastics removed
🌿 30kg debris cleared

Because a healthier ocean starts from the shore.

As part of our ongoing Ocean & Coastal Conservation efforts, we carried out another successful beach cleanup at Sampalthivu Beach near our Nilaveli Nursery, together with Marine Environment Protection Authority-Sri Lanka , NRC (Negombo Recycling Centre), and FCBS students from Eastern University.

Rather than working against a time limit, the team focused on restoring a 75-meter stretch of shoreline to the best of our ability.

💚 Cleanup impact:
♻️ 30 kg of recyclable plastic collected for recycling
🗑️ 15 kg of non-recyclable plastic removed
🛍️ 11 kg of polythene cleared
🌿 25 kg of debris removed from the beach

Every effort like this helps protect marine life and keep our coastlines clean for future generations. 🌍✨

As part of our ongoing Plastic-Free Fishery Harbor initiative, we were proud to carry out another successful coastal cleanup at Cod Bay on January 30, 2026 — strengthening our commitment to protecting our oceans and marine life.

This meaningful effort was made possible through the partnership of CFHC Cod Bay, Ocean University Regional Centre – Cod Bay, and NRC (Negombo Recycling Centre), Trincomalee Branch, bringing together like-minded stakeholders who truly care about our environment.

💚 During this cleanup:

♻️ 10 kg of recyclable plastic was collected and sent for responsible recycling

🗑️ 54 kg of total waste was removed from the harbor area

Every cleanup is a step closer to a cleaner, healthier coastline. We’re especially encouraged to see more environmentally conscious partners in Cod Bay joining hands with us — strengthening collective action for long-term sustainability.

This initiative is part of our broader Ocean & Coastal Conservation Program, where we work continuously to reduce marine pollution, support responsible waste management, and protect our precious coastal ecosystems for future generations.

Together, we’re not just cleaning today — we’re caring for tomorrow. 🌍✨

As part of Oceanpick’s CSR — Community & Social Development Initiative, we successfully launched the first in a series of capacity-building programs for the Women’s Society at 5th Mile Post, Trincomalee, in collaboration with Ocean University.

The workshop focused on hands-on training in value-added fish products, raw material identification, sustainable sourcing, and responsible small-scale production. This marks the beginning of a long-term journey toward empowering women and nurturing future SME-level entrepreneurs within the fisheries community. 🌊🐟
