The Macallan Estate
The Macallan Estate is a tribute to the heritage and history of The Macallan. This special new single malt contains rare spirit from a proportion of the barley grown at Easter Elchies estate, which is distilled just once a year over the course of a single week. Created by Whisky Maker Sarah Burgess, The Macallan Estate is a celebration of the single malt’s peerless provenance and heritage.

Presented in a striking gift pack, featuring a hand cut slate panel representative of the Scottish landscape. Inside, aerial photography showcases the estate’s impressive barley fields on the banks of the beautiful River Spey. A rich and complex whisky.

Tasting Notes from The Macallan

Aroma - Warm, comforting and homely notes of cinnamon. Wood spice and orange oil, opening into dried fruits with a sweet lemon, banana and caramel.

Palate - Soft and warming with wood spice, opening into a dry oak flavour spiked with candied raisin and fresh fig. Moving into a sweet fresh orange and delicate fresh citrus.

On the nose, Yoichi 10 Years Old offers a fresh, herbal profile characterized by complex aromas of dried fruit, ripe banana and malted grain, which blend seamlessly with more subtle notes of black pepper and peat smoke. On the palate, this whisky is both crisp and smooth, with intense flavors of custard, smoky oak, and an elegant touch of peat that carry through to a long, warm finish marked by spicy and woody notes in total balance.

This single malt is made from a blend of malt whiskies that have been distilled and aged for at least 10 years in oak casks, using traditional methods such as direct charcoal toasting, brought back after a visit to Scotland by Masataka Taketsuru, the founder of Nikka.

After a seven-year hiatus due to insufficient stocks of old malts, Yoichi 10 Year Old makes its comeback and boasts a perfect blend of Scottish tradition and Japanese finesse to offer a new rich and complex taste experience.

It may be hard to imagine today, but for much of the 20th century, Macallan was primarily a constituent malt in blends. It was not until the 1980s downturn in the market that the distillery decided to focus on its single malt brand. Fortuitously, this coincided with the crest of a wave of enthusiasm for the high quality releases that the distillery had licensed to Campbell, Hope & King and Gordon & MacPhail in the 1960s and 1970s. These remain some of the most collectible on the market. While global single malt sales volume is still lead by Speyside neighbours, Glenfiddich and Glenlivet, Macallan is easily the most sought after. So much so in fact, that they had to open a brand new distillery in 2018, a subterranean architectural masterpiece within the Easter Elchies estate, boasting 36 copper pot stills.

This is the first edition of this popular release, exclusive to Macallan Boutique’s across the world. At this point in time only Taiwan had one of these.

This bottle was drawn from a selection of matured casks reserved only for distinguished guests visiting Easter Elchies House which is the spiritual home of the Macallan.
