Finding Shindi in Phnom Penh felt a little like stumbling upon a secret, one we didn’t even know we were looking for. As a couple who already loves Georgian food, our expectations were quietly hopeful but realistic. After all, Georgian cuisine isn’t exactly something you expect to discover in Cambodia. Happily, Shindi exceeded those expectations in the most delicious way possible.
From the moment the food began arriving at our table, it was clear we were in for a treat. Every dish tasted wonderfully authentic, full of rich flavours, comforting spices, and the kind of care that suggests real pride in the food being served. This wasn’t Georgian-inspired cuisine, this was the real thing. Each bite reminded us why we fell in love with Georgian food in the first place: hearty, generous, deeply satisfying, and perfect for sharing.
The menu itself was dangerously tempting. As we flipped through it, we quickly realised there was no possible way two people with only two stomachs could do it justice in one visit. There were so many dishes calling our names that the hardest part of the meal was deciding what 'not' to order. Honestly, our only real complaint is that we probably needed five bellies between us to try everything that looked appealing. If that’s the biggest problem you have at a restaurant, you know you’re doing something right.
Service at Shindi was just as impressive as the food. The staff were attentive, friendly, and clearly knowledgeable about the menu, without ever feeling intrusive. We felt genuinely welcomed rather than simply served. A particularly lovely touch was when the manager came over after our meal for a friendly chat. It was relaxed, warm, and personal, the kind of interaction that makes you feel like more than just another table, and one that really added to the overall experience.
What made the evening especially memorable was the delightful surprise factor. Georgian cuisine in Cambodia wasn’t something we ever expected to find, yet here it was, and done exceptionally well. Shindi feels like a small culinary gift hidden in Phnom Penh, one that we’re very grateful to have discovered.
We left happy, and very full. Whether you’re already a fan of Georgian food or entirely new to it, Shindi is absolutely worth a visit. It’s authentic, welcoming, and genuinely delicious, and we’d recommend it without hesitation.
