Your mouth has a story to tell. Are you paying attention?

Mouth cancer can affect the tongue, lips, gums, cheeks and other tissues of the mouth. Detecting it early can make a life-saving difference.

This November, the Kenya Dental Association calls on all Kenyans to BE MOUTH AWARE.

🔎 Look out for warning signs such as:

Mouth ulcers that don’t heal within two weeks.

Unusual red or white patches in the mouth.

Lumps or swellings in the mouth or neck.

Persistent pain, unexplained bleeding or difficulty swallowing.

Don’t ignore unusual changes. Don’t self-medicate. Have them assessed by a qualified dental professional.

Remember:
✅ Check your mouth regularly.
✅ Attend routine dental examinations.
✅ Know your risk factors.
✅ Seek professional attention early.

Early detection can save lives. Your mouth matters. Your health matters.

Women shaping the future of dentistry! 🦷✨

The Women in Dentistry session at the FDI Regional Congress 2026 provided a platform to celebrate the contributions, leadership and achievements of women in the dental profession.

Through meaningful conversations, shared experiences and inspiring perspectives, the session highlighted the importance of empowering women, breaking barriers and creating opportunities for greater representation and leadership in dentistry.

As we advance dentistry in Africa, we recognise that the future is stronger when women are empowered to lead, innovate and make an impact.

Here’s to more women leading the way!💙

You spent 5+ years mastering clinical skills, but no one taught you how to pass a 45-minute HR interview.

Two candidates apply for the same senior clinical role with identical qualifications. Candidate A relies solely on their credentials. Candidate B clearly communicates their leadership value, optimizes their professional presence, and articulates their career achievements.

Guess who gets the offer?

In healthcare, we spend thousands of hours perfecting patient care yet rarely dedicate time to mastering our own career strategy.

From crafting a compelling LinkedIn profile to understanding what Chief Human Resource Officers actually look for during interviews, intentional positioning makes all the difference.

Here are 3 subtle shifts every healthcare professional should consider:
1️⃣ Shift from listing duties to highlighting impact on your CV.
2️⃣ Treat your LinkedIn profile as a dynamic portfolio, not a static resume.
3️⃣ Develop emotional intelligence and leadership presence for high-stakes interviews.

Behind the treatment of complex diseases affecting the face and jaws are specialists whose expertise goes beyond dentistry.

Maxillofacial surgeons play a vital role in diagnosing and managing conditions such as facial trauma, jaw tumours, cysts, congenital abnormalities, infections and other complex conditions affecting the head, face and neck.

Their work restores not only function and health, but also facial form, confidence and quality of life.

This is the impact of maxillofacial surgery in advancing patient care. We recognise and appreciate the specialists making a difference, one patient at a time. Thomas Mukavale

On the sidelines of the FDI Regional Congress in Mombasa, Kenya, Prof. Tarek Abbas, President of the African Regional Organization of the FDI (ARO), convened a meeting with African dental leaders, in the presence of Dr. Nikolai Sharkov, President of the FDI World Dental Federation, and Prof. Nour Habib, EDA Treasurer.

The meeting provided an important platform to strengthen professional partnerships, encourage knowledge exchange, and advance a shared vision for the future of dentistry in Africa.

Discussions underscored ARO’s pivotal role in fostering pan-African cooperation, advancing continuing dental education, promoting the exchange of scientific expertise, and strengthening oral health services across the continent.

As the dental community continues to work towards improved oral health outcomes, collaboration among national dental associations and professional leaders remains essential to raising standards of care and addressing Africa’s oral health challenges.

The Kenya Dental Association welcomes these collaborative efforts towards a stronger, more connected African dental community and the advancement of dentistry across the continent.

Together, we advance dentistry in Africa. 🦷🌍
