Regional Police Dog Unit has praised Laikipia County government move to buy and train police dogs, saying it will boost war on crime. The unit commander Isaac Kiptepis hailed the county government move to purchase four German Shepherd breed of dogs being trained at the units headquarters in Nakuru.

He said the number of police dogs has dropped due to natural attrition, therefore, the need to venture into such initiatives to strengthen the department that has for decades been of great assistance in investigating crimes. Kiptepis said the region needs to replace some dogs which have aged and others injured and there are no enough for the exercise.
