Strengthening skills, deepening practice and advancing effective dispute resolution.

The Eldoret Edition of the LSK Mediation Training brought together advocates and legal practitioners for an engaging learning experience focused on enhancing practical arbitration skills and strengthening the effective resolution of disputes.

Council Member Aseso Omollo and Council Member & Co-Convenor of the ADR Committee, Titus Mukanzi, attended the certification and closing ceremony, highlighting the Society’s commitment to continuous professional development and the advancement of alternative dispute resolution.

Through knowledge-sharing, practical sessions and meaningful engagement, the training provided participants with valuable insights and practical tools to navigate arbitration proceedings with greater confidence and effectiveness.

Today, the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), led by its President, hosted a delegation from the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) of South Africa, led by Adv. Muthunzi C. Mhaga and Mr. Tshepo Tongoane.

The delegation also included representatives from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions: Ms. Angela Morraa, Prosecution Counsel; Mr. Arnold Mrima, Senior Research Officer; and Ms. Purity Miheso.

The LSK President was joined by Ms. Florence Muturi, Chief Executive Officer and Council Member; Mr. Tom K’Opere, Council Member; Mr. Hiram Kirimi, Co-Convenor of the Criminal Justice Committee; Mr. Duncan Ondimu; and Committee Member Ms. Lorraine Atieno.

The courtesy call provided an opportunity for the NPA delegation to benchmark against Kenya’s model of civil litigation services, as well as the legal support provided by the Society to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the wider Government.

In his remarks, the President noted the significant role played by the 2010 Constitution of Kenya in shaping and enriching criminal and civil legal practice in the country.

The Law Society of Kenya appreciates the visit and the constructive engagement with the National Prosecuting Authority of South Africa. The Society looks forward to strengthening this engagement and fostering continued collaboration and knowledge exchange between the two jurisdictions.

Day Three of the LSK Regional Training on Mediation in Nakuru continues to bring advocates together to deepen their skills, share experiences and explore practical approaches to resolving disputes peacefully.

Council Member and ADR Committee Co-Convenor, Nick Titus Mukanzi , joined the sessions, emphasizing the importance of dialogue, collaboration and constructive engagement in fostering amicable dispute resolution.

The training continues to emphasise the role of mediation in promoting timely, accessible and sustainable justice, where parties have an opportunity to find common ground, resolve conflicts and move forward.

Through initiatives such as these, the LSK continues to strengthen the capacity of advocates to embrace alternative dispute resolution and contribute to a more efficient and collaborative justice system.

Today, the 4th Employment and Labour Relations Annual Symposium and Exhibition brought together key stakeholders to reflect on the evolving landscape of employment and labour law.

Discussions highlighted the need for stronger protection of Kenyan migrant workers, ethical recruitment systems, effective dispute resolution and cross-border judicial cooperation.

LSK President Charles Kanjama emphasised the vital role of advocates in promoting legal compliance, protecting workplace rights and facilitating fair resolution of employment disputes. He also highlighted efforts to address challenges facing young lawyers and acknowledged the progressive jurisprudence of the Employment and Labour Relations Court.

ELRASE IV 2026 reaffirmed the importance of collaboration among Government, the Judiciary, the legal profession, employers and employees in advancing fair labour practices, accessible justice and stronger labour institutions.

Today, the Law Society of Kenya held a constructive engagement with the Business Registration Service (BRS) as part of our continuing efforts to strengthen the interface between legal practice and business registration services in Kenya.

Our discussions focused on practical issues affecting advocates and other professionals who interact with BRS, including service delivery, digitisation and automation of processes, stakeholder engagement across the various BRS registries, access to eCitizen services by authorised practitioners, review of Practice Notes, professional undertakings, integrity and complaints mechanisms, and opportunities for appropriate system integration.

We also discussed the need for stronger safeguards around professional practice and verification of documents prepared by advocates, as well as structured engagement on matters affecting insolvency practitioners and other areas within the BRS mandate.

Importantly, both institutions have recognised the value of moving towards a more structured and sustained framework of collaboration, including the development of a Memorandum of Understanding that can clearly define areas of cooperation, responsibilities, stakeholder-engagement mechanisms and implementation arrangements.

The Law Society of Kenya appreciates the leadership of the BRS and look forward to translating these engagements into measurable improvements for advocates, businesses and members of the public

This weekend, the Mediation Training Malindi Edition came to an end, and Malindi Law Society welcomed its newest cohort of Certified Professional Mediators. The Law Society of Kenya, through its ADR Committee, is moving closer to its target of training 1,000 advocates on mediation by the end of the year.

The Closing and Awarding Ceremony was presided over by the LSK Coast Representative, who also serves as Co-Convenor of the ADR Committee, alongside Ms. Damaris Otieno, Vice-Chairperson Coast Branch and Chairperson of Malindi Law Society, and Mr. Lawrence Obonyo, Vice-Chairperson of Mombasa Law Society, among other branch and chapter executives.

Congratulations to all trainees on attaining the status of Certified Professional Mediator!

The momentum continues this week, Nakuru begins its mediation training on Monday, 14th September, followed by Eldoret on Tuesday, 15th September.

In case you missed it, the Law Society of Kenya published its *Ol Kalou Constituency By-Election Observation Report*, documenting the events and observations from the 16th July 2026 by-election.

The report is the product of the work of the LSK Election Observation Team, led by Council Member Wambugu Wanjohi whose members were deployed across the constituency to observe the electoral process, document incidents and provide an independent account of the conduct of the by-election.

We thank the entire observation team for putting their time, professional expertise and commitment to the rule of law into this important exercise.

The findings provide useful lessons as we turn our attention to the 2027 General Election.
