How to Eat Wagyu Hitsumabushi
1. First Serving: Enjoy the Original Flavor
Divide: Use the paddle to divide the contents (rice and wagyu beef) in the ohitsu into four equal parts.
Serve: Scoop the first portion into your small rice bowl.
Eat: Savor it plain to enjoy the original taste of the glazed Wagyu beef and rice.
2. Second Serving: Add Condiments
Serve: Scoop the second portion into your bowl.
Mix: Add your preferred condiments (yakumi), which usually include wasabi (Japanese horseradish), chopped green onions, and sometimes shredded nori seaweed.and rice cracker (arare)
Eat: Mix the condiments thoroughly with the beef and rice. The spices add a refreshing contrast to the rich beef.
3. Third Serving: Chazuke Style
Serve: Scoop the third portion into your bowl.
Add Condiments: Add a small amount of your favorite condiments (wasabi is highly recommended).
Pour Broth: Pour the special dashi broth from the pot over the top, turning the dish into a type of savory soup-rice known as ochazuke (chazuke).
Eat: Enjoy the refined, soupy texture. The hot broth softens the rice and adds a light, umami flavor that balances the richness of the beef.
4. Fourth Serving: Your Favorite Way
Decide: Use the final portion to repeat the style you liked best from the first three servings (plain, with condiments, or chazuke).
Enjoy your meal!
