Case Basse Soldera 2021
トスカーナ モンタルチーノに拠点を置く、カーゼバッセ ディ ジャンフランコ ソルデラ。
創業者ジャンフランコ ソルデラは元々ミラノで保険業を営んでいた人物。1972年に荒れ果てた土地を購入し、ワイン造りに転身した異色の経歴の持ち主です。
サンジョヴェーゼの権威 ジュリオ ガンベッリを迎え、徹底したこだわりのもと栽培・醸造を追求。瞬く間にブルネッロの頂点に立つ存在となりました。
その後、地域の方針に納得できずコンソルツィオを脱退。2006年を最後にブルネッロの呼称を返上し、以降はトスカーナIGTとしてリリースしています。
畑も造りも何一つ変えていないのに、自らラベルを降りるという選択。この頑固さこそがソルデラらしさかなと。
造りは至ってシンプルで、徹底的。
自社畑のサンジョヴェーゼ100%、10haという規模はすべて手作業で管理できる範囲に留めるため。畑で房を選別し、除梗後にさらに粒を一粒ずつ検品するという徹底ぶり。発酵はスラヴォニアンオークの大樽で、自生酵母のみの完全自然発酵です。
2021年は、冬の雨で水分が蓄えられ、春は冷涼で乾燥、夏も気温は平年並みという、近年では珍しく落ち着いた年。緊張感のある酸と塩味を感じる、垂直的で凛とした仕上がりだと言われています。
華やかさよりも骨格。
時間をかけて向き合いたい一本です。

Case Basse di Gianfranco Soldera, based in Montalcino, Tuscany.
Founder Gianfranco Soldera was originally an insurance broker in Milan. In 1972 he bought a piece of neglected land and switched to w**emaking—an unusual path, to say the least.
He brought in Giulio Gambelli, the great authority on Sangiovese, and pursued farming and w**emaking with uncompromising rigor. Before long the estate stood at the very summit of Brunello.
Later, unable to accept the direction the region was taking, he withdrew from the Consorzio. 2006 was his last Brunello; since then the w**es have been released as Toscana IGT.
Nothing changed in the vineyard or the cellar—he simply stepped off the label himself. That stubbornness feels like the essence of Soldera to me.
The w**emaking is utterly simple, and utterly thorough.
100% estate-grown Sangiovese; the holdings are kept to 10 hectares precisely so everything can be worked by hand. Bunches are selected in the vineyard, and after destemming, each berry is checked one by one. Fermentation happens in large Slavonian oak vats—native yeasts only, entirely natural.
2021 brought winter rains that built good water reserves, a cool dry spring, and near-average summer temperatures—a rare, settled year by recent standards. The result is said to be taut and vertical, with tense acidity and a saline edge.
