Kappabashi is the spot for kitchen-related shopping in Tokyo😁✨

If you come across a sizable statue of a dandy mustached chef looking into the distance from the top of a retro brown building…you’ve found yourself in Tokyo’s culinary heaven!😆

Kappabashi is a shopping street selling everything from cooking utensils and pans to stoves and tables. If you need anything kitchen-related, whether you’re a casual home cook or restaurant owner, there’s a good chance you will find it here. Even if you don’t particularly have a shopping list, just walking by the over 170 specialized shops with stacks of every kind of knife, plate, realistic food sample, etc. you’ve ever seen is a fun activity!😝

If you get to visit in July, you’re in for an extra treat because of the annual Sh*tamachi Tanabata Festival, which features traditional Japanese music and performances🧡

After you’ve had your kitchen needs met, come experience the flavors that can be achieved using those tools at Bar & Restaurant Coconoma where Italian-Japanese cuisine awaits😋

The cherry blossom season is here! In Tokyo the blossoms are opening and are predicted to be fully open (“mankai”) around April 1. They will remain at peak viewing for about another week after this, although weather such as wind and rain may affect the blooming. 🌸🥰🌸

As you may know, predicting the coming of the cherry blossom season is a big thing each year in Japan. It seems that everyone follows the predictions eagerly. Of course, people need the information to help them plan spring trips and outings to famous "hanami" (cherry blossom viewing) spots. But more than this, these sakura flowers are such a cherished symbol of Japan that the opening of the blossoms is part of the culture. How do they predict this, and how who decides when the season has started? 🧐

In Tokyo there is a special tree at Yasukuni Shrine designated by the Japan Meteorological Agency. When an open flower is observed, then the first day of the cherry blossom season is declared in Tokyo. Since 1955 the Meteorological Agency has been forecasting the annual blooming, using data gathered from 58 preselected sample trees around Japan. They are the popular Some-Yoshino variety, known for its pale pink flowers.👩‍⚕️🧑‍⚕️

It has been getting harder to predict, as flowering dates have gradually been getting earlier due to global warming. Even temperature changes a few weeks before the season can affect the blossoms—this year some colder weather in March put back the opening by a day or two. If you are planning your trip to Tokyo next spring, please check out the sakura season predictions online! Just consider that even the best predictions may change. After all, nobody can fully predict what Mother Nature will do! 🌸🤞

This year Easter is March 31, coming right at the heart of the cherry blossom season! Do you celebrate Easter in your country? In the Christian church, it is marking the resurrection of Jesus, and there are also many symbols linked to the coming of new life, including rabbits, chicks and eggs. 🐣🐇While the religious aspect is not widely observed in Japan, the connection with spring means that Easter fits well in well with the culture and season. In recent years you’ll find colorful and cute Easter-themed confectionary, and some amusement parks and shopping centers hold spring events with an Easter motif. 🌸🥰

If you’re looking for some Easter fun this month, there is still time to come and try our adorable afternoon tea! Enjoy our whimsical chicks, bunnies, eggs and carrots in Easter-themed sweets, all beautifully arranged and served in a jewelry box! To reserve your spot, go to our homepage or message us here. 🧁☕
