The 36th Yasushi Akutagawa Suntory Award for Music Composition takes place on Aug 30, as part of Suntory Hall Summer Festival. The 3 nominated works by Nozomu Kaneda, Yuki Nakahashi, and Tetsuya Yamamoto will be performed by the New Japan Philharmonic conducted by Kanako Abe. This will be followed by deliberations on stage by the jury.

Tan Dun's masterpiece "TEA: A Mirror of Soul" returned to Suntory Hall in a dazzling new production by Sherwood Hu, conducted by the composer (July 3,4). The opera has evolved from its 2002 premiere at Suntory Hall through many revivals around the world.

This year's Suntory Hall Summer Festival features the launch of a new contemporary group, Ensemble “Go for it" formed of young musicians with the aim of making contemporary music something that can be enjoyed as part of everyday life (Aug 22).
The inaugural concert shares diverse perspectives and fresh insights into musical masterpieces. Conducted by founder Ryusuke Numajiri and featuring up-and-coming soloists, the programme consists of Schoenberg, Jolivet, Ligeti, Hachimura and Fujikura.
