日豪友好協力基本条約署名50周年 および
豪日交流基金設立50周年記念展

ご招待頂き、名誉会長と副会長が
参加しました。
1976年 6月16日、三木武夫総理とマルコム・フレーザー首相との間で「日豪友好協力基本条約」が署名されました。
これは、日豪両国の経済面での繋がりが深くなる中で、多岐にわたる分野での日豪関係の拡大強化を目的にしたものであり、今日に至るまで、長年続く両国の深い友好関係の礎であり続けてきました。

2026年6月16日の今日は、日豪友好協力基本条約署名、および豪州政府により設立された豪日交流基金設立からちょうど50周年にあたります。
「特別な戦略的パートナーシップ」の下、
「自由で開かれたインド洋（FOIP)」実現のために意思と能力を有する同志国の代表の皆様と共に、この日を寿ぐ幸せに感謝します。
オープニングパーティは
次期駐日オーストラリア大使アンドリュー・シーラー閣下ご挨拶から。
次に堀井巌 外務副大臣がスピーチがあり、
南オーストラリア州のフランシス・アダムソン総督の
乾杯🥂のご発声でパーティ開演です。
経済面に留まらず、文化芸能、スポーツ（日豪AFL交流）戦後の和解への営みや
日豪ライフセービングプロジェクト、学会交流にコアラやクオッカなどの可愛い大使たちの貢献秘話や科学外交、日豪教育パートナーシップ、先住民族交流etc…
もちろん姉妹都市はすでに100を超えて今も拡大中。
未来は明るい両国です。
JANZ 2028 100周年プロジェクトへの

50th Anniversary of the Signing of the Basic Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Japan and Australia
and the 50th Anniversary Exhibition of the Australia-Japan Foundation

Representatives of the Japan–Australia–New Zealand Society (JANZ), including our Honorary President and Vice President, were honored to attend this commemorative event.
On 16 June 1976, Prime Minister Takeo Miki of Japan and Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser of Australia signed the Basic Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Japan and Australia. The treaty was established at a time when economic ties between the two nations were deepening, with the aim of expanding and strengthening bilateral relations across a wide range of fields. For five decades, it has remained a cornerstone of the enduring friendship and close partnership between Japan and Australia.

Today, 16 June 2026, marks the 50th anniversary of both the signing of the Basic Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Japan and Australia and the establishment of the Australia-Japan Foundation by the Australian Government.
It was a privilege to celebrate this significant milestone alongside representatives of like-minded nations that share both the commitment and the capability to advance a Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP) under the framework of the Special Strategic Partnership between Japan and Australia.
The opening reception commenced with remarks by His Excellency Mr. Andrew Shearer, Australia’s next Ambassador to Japan, followed by an address from Mr. Iwao Horii, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan. The celebration officially began with a toast proposed by Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC, Governor of South Australia.
The exhibition highlighted the remarkable breadth of Japan–Australia cooperation beyond the economic sphere, including cultural and artistic exchange, sporting ties such as Japan–Australia AFL initiatives, post-war reconciliation efforts, the Japan–Australia Lifesaving Project, academic collaboration, scientific diplomacy, educational partnerships, and exchanges between Indigenous peoples. Visitors also learned about the contributions of beloved “ambassadors” such as koalas and quokkas in fostering mutual understanding between the two nations.
The number of sister-city partnerships between Japan and Australia has already surpassed 100 and continues to grow, reflecting the vibrant and forward-looking relationship shared by our two countries.
As we look toward an even brighter future for Japan and Australia, we also took the opportunity to seek support for the JANZ 2028 Centennial Project, marking the Society’s 100th anniversary. We were delighted to promote JANZ at the event and sincerely wish the exhibition every success throughout its duration.
