❂ This remote valley hidden in colored sands of Biblical Land of Edom (Wadi Rum, Jordan) layered with six thousands years of human history - there are Thamudic inscriptions in five minutes walk, we guide scrambled trips to the mountaintops and willing to share with guests bits of our knowledge about local flora, rocks and history.

An amazing Bedouin camp without the pretentiousness of other camps that want to sell everything at a high price. There's not a soul around, peace and quiet, delicious breakfasts and dinners prepared according to traditional recipes, and if you wish, you can be met at a gas station on the highway and driven there. The camp speaks English, Arabic, and Russian, which was very important to me. They kindly gave me a tour of the area and told me a lot about life in Jordan and the Bedouins. Of course there is a toilet, shower and electricity.

Introducing Zilla, a robust thorny bush found throughout Wadi Rum. Its striking purple blossoms and lush, green, juicy leaves make it an irresistible forage for goats, demonstrating nature's resilience after a prolonged summer drought. Since the rains started and Zilla came to life again, Jafar Hassan was caught up in playful mud antics, encountered the dry thorns, he harbored a personal grudge against this tenacious plant. Unaware that these leaves, nurtured by occasional rains, would later attract migratory butterflies, creating an enchanting orange cloud around each purple cluster. Despite my efforts to persuade him, I discovered another distressed Zilla this morning. I implore you, dear friends, to help me stress the importance of desert ecology to Jafar. If environmental concerns don't resonate, remind him that a spectacular burning-man-party awaits if we can not hold himself to preserve these wonders.

That's how a day I might look like
The best place to stay in the desert
+ When you imagine that you travel to a friends who lives at the village in Europe, what would you expect? Probably village life, which is different than the one in the city. What would you expect when you travel to desert? Probably much less confortable place than you can find here at MalakoRum.
Very confortable rooms, european type of toilet, hot shower (we vere there just at the end of calendar year - so in winter time). Wow and such delicious dinner freshly cooked by the hosts.

The stay for us was like visiting friends who moved to desert to farm there. So we expected animals around, and we loved it. When you see beduins next the desert streets they have also animals around. So the experience from the desert life was way more much authentic then the games played to tourist elsevere. We expected and loved that touch of authenticity.

Jo was very kind all the time to explain all the things we were curious about - desert life, geology, history etc. and she turn to be very rich well of knowledge. She offered us a hiking tour in the mountains around and it was unexpectedly experience with a little climbing at the top of near hill top with wonderful view.
Jafar may seem to be harsh and bitter, as the desert fruit are, on the first glance. But when you let to know him a little bit more you will find the cool and broad hearted man you can love.

We had four-wheeler car so we wanted to travel more in desert, but without any experience of desert ride. Jo and Jafar helped us to plan our little desert trip, just for the time we had. That trip was also wonderful experience which we would have not undergo without the help of our "desert" friends. Thank you for encouraging and helping.
- It was too short :)
