Chef Francesco Zorzetto at La Cantina guarantees the freshest, most select ingredients whether for a panino, a platter of the freshest non-fishy fish (raw or flash baked), a succulent meal of fresh

fish, meats like duck breast, pata negra, lamb, marinated beef or roast pork, select cheeses or Venice's best salads. Open from 11:30 on, lunch served from noon-ish and in the afternoon; cichetti anytime for dinner from 7:30 p.m. Great wine selection, by the glass or by the bottle, and beer on the lees BirraMorgana, from their on craft brewery. (La Cantina does not have another web site.)

A perfect summer platter composed of the freshest salad ingredients, nestled between Trentino carne salata (beef cured for 2 weeks or more in salt, tender beyond belief), and baked Spanish Pata Negra prosciutto, with a little spicey mustard on the side.

All accompanied by the last bottle of an 2009 IAR bottle of a rare, recently recuperated Vallèe d'Aosta variety, Mayolet.

And yes, it was as better than it looks...
