It comes as no surprise that today’s DJ stages resemble more and more a Rock’n’Roll arena: fireworks, explosions, pyrotechnics – the full glitter package. Of course, it’s perfect fodder for social media stories, for the endless stream of self-promotion. Yet the music itself is increasingly pushed to the background.
So what is it really about now? The show, the ego performance, the lifestyle spectacle. DJs as self-displaying entertainers who spark more fireworks than their own tracks.
The booth as a theater stage for the self – a puppet show with confetti cannons.
Fortunately, there are still exceptions: artists who reveal their true talent in the selection of music, in creating atmospheres, in being in the flow with their sound. Sexy in their presentation without cheap effects, carried solely by what matters: the music.
