Non si può avere la botte piena e la moglie ubriaca

Literal translation: “You can’t have both a full barrel and a drunken wife”

Corresponding proverb: “You can’t have your cake and eat it too”

The message of the proverb is that you can’t expect to have it all. We have to make choices and each choice involves a sacrifice. The proverb describes what would be the ideal situation for a man: having all the wine he wants and, at the same time, having a more obliging wife, “softened” by the effects of wine. That said, of course, this saying has been affected by time going by and by social changes, as it refers to a society where the woman was essentially relegated to the roles of wife and mother. However, it’s still interesting because it points out another cultural aspect if you compare it to its equivalent in English: while Italians are in love with wine, it seems that Anglo-Saxons have more of a sweet tooth and prefer cakes!

1. The word vino (wine) has a romantic Sanskrit origin.

The word vino comes from the Sanskrit word “venas” which means “to love”. From the same word comes the name “Venus” – the Roman goddess of love. It should come as no surprise, then, that we use the word to identify a drink that’s pleasurable, sociable and full of sensuality – a treat for all the senses, and something that we remember long after we’ve tasted it.

Italian wine is one of the most difficult regions to get to know. Why? Well for one, the Italians use an esoteric wine labeling system, much like the French. But that’s not even the biggest problem in terms of familiarizing yourself with Italian wines. The hardest part is learning all the different grape varieties.

At the moment, there are about 350 official Italian wine varieties. There have been rumors that over 2,000 different Italian grapes exist, but this might be a bit of an exaggeration– something Italians do well.

See an easy to understand map of Italian wine regions and major wine varieties. Learn about the 20 Italian wine regions and which ones to try first when delving into Italian wines.

Rules for Great Wine and Food Pairings

#5 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo: Medium-bodied red wines like Montepulciano generally pair with a wide variety of foods due to natural elevated acidity.

However, with Montepulciano, the robust herbal and tobacco-like flavors with grippy tannin often call for richer and more savory foods. Montepulciano will cut through some of the meatiest meats (like beef brisket) and pair nicely alongside rich, roasted winter vegetables.

Montepulciano d'Abruzzo I.G.T

Description:
The vine Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is a kind of long-aging red wines. The grape must ages not less than two years (three years for the Reserve) in oak or chestnut barrels and at least 6 months in bottle. The aging period begins on 1 November every year.

Features:
Intense ruby red. A fruity aroma of blackberry slightly tender, of ripe red fruits, including wild red currant, and spices. The main feature is the aroma of licorice. Sometimes the bottom is packed with spicy smells. Super-fine elegant tannins, finish that goes on forever, good body texture, excellent texture.

Matching:
The best culinary combinations are quite important, such as boiled, braised, roasted, poultry and seasoned cheeses.

Exposure: south-east.

Alcohol content: 12% vol.

Serve at 18 ° -20 ° C

Rules for Great Wine and Food Pairings

#5 Merlot: Matches with highly spiced dishes

When a meat is heavily seasoned look for a red wine with lots of spicy notes. Merlot is a good choose.

Features:
Ruby red more or less loaded, brilliant. Bouquet was pronounced, enveloping with sensations of marasca, blackberry and violets accompanied by spicy notes.

#4 Pinot Grigio: Pairs with light fish dishes

Light seafood dishes, like seafood tostada bites, seem to take on more flavor when matched with equally delicate white wines.

Pinot Grigio Puglia I.G.T.

Description:
The Gray Pinot Grape is most likely a genetic mutation of the Pinot Noir. It belongs to the group called "international" vines, of French origin and widely cultivated all over the world. In Italy is cultivated, with massive productions of the highest quality, and for many years one of the most "in vogue" Italian wines. Its color is coppery, it is often produced white but if in contact with the skins it assumes the natural orange tone.

Characteristics:
The grape is distinguished by its characteristic cupreous pink color. The white production is a very fine and elegant wine, though distinctive for structure and body. The strong scent of fruit is also characterized by a bouquet of dry hay. The flavor is firm, full and harmonious, dry and of extreme elegance.

Matching:
It can be served as an aperitif, but it is also combined with large risottos, salsa fish, crustaceans and white meats.

Exposure: south-east.

Alcohol content: 12% vol.

Serve at 8 ° - 10 ° C

#3 Pinot Rosé: For rich, cheesy dishes

Some cheeses go better with white wine, some with red; yet almost all pair well with dry rosé, which has the acidity of white wine and the fruit character of red.

Pinot Rosè Puglia I.G.T.

Description:
The grape after being smashed is pressed, as the white varieties, and the grape must finally ferments in barriques. Thanks to the wood fermentation, the bouquet of wine is more complex. After about a month, young wine is roasted and remains for another six months in steel container, where the fermentation takes place.

Features:
The Pinot Noir Rosé comes with a light cherry red color. The fresh and fruity bouquet opens with aromas of red berries, cherries and raspberries to finally end with notes of herbs and a cocoa tip. On the palate, the wine has a fresh acidity, long-lasting flavor and inviting refreshing finish.

Matching:
This rosy served at the right temperature is ideal as an aperitif and can be combined with simple fish dishes, first Mediterranean cuisine and fresh cheeses.

Exposure: west, southwest.

Alcohol content: 12% vol.

Serve at 10 ° -12 ° C

Our wines represent the best of Italian wine production.

Twenty years of experience in the production and bottling of wines, especially for those from Campania Region.

The idea of the Dioniso winery has arisen because the harvest of grapes in Italy is fragmented and widespread among thousands of small vineyards.

Dioniso Winery intends to offer its customers the best Italian wine selections through a careful selection of grapes harvested by small local farmers in different Italian geographic areas and putting them together in order to reduce the costs while preserving the same quality.
