Agni- Igniting Creativity
Agni cultural academy, based in Annamanada, a village with revering cultural moorings, has been striving to envision such a future, taking the tools provided by the best of the past and present.
We, team Agni, believe all Art expressions reflect the politics of the time in either overt or covert ways. By politics, we do not mean narrow partisanism, but all of woman’s/man’s transactions with the environs around her/him. Art, thus, is conceived as an ecological practice which is essentially dialectical and historical. For us, art is not only entertainment but also dialectic; it is a potent tool with which humans may liberate themselves from their own restrictive environs, both material and spiritual. Art is, in short, our ideology. To say in the language of Bharat, Art is the purifier par excellence, the very ‘agni’ which smelts and remoulds our inner cove and outer shell (soul and body) into ever-higher contents and forms.
So, art is ‘agni’ for self-purification; Agni is art for self-emancipation. Art is the meeting point of history and heritage at the junction of the present. That this rather long pre-amble is not mere rhetoric is proven by the 200 odd programmes we’ve organised over past one decade.
