This is a picture from the 1948 Olympics that took place in London. Our football team tied 1-1 with France. Our players couldn't win because they had no shoes, and they played the whole match barefoot. Due to which many players were also injured by other team players shoes. Still the competition remained equal.
Shailendranath Manna was the captain of this team. He was one of the best players in the world.
Now listen to the other side of this, why did the government not give shoes because the government did not even have that much money. This was the time when Nehru's clothes came dry clean from Paris. And sir used to roam around the private jet with his dog.
The result is that FIFA banned India in 1950 World Cup because no team could play match without shoes.
Indian team never went to FIFA World Cup again.
