INTERNATIONAL WOMENâS DAY-2023 CELEBRATIONS
Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) Bar Association with CAT UNIT of Adhivakta Parishad Chandigarh (APC) celebrated âInternational Women Day-2023â with full enthusiasm and zeal.
The Guest of Honour was SMT. RASHMI SAXENA SAHNI (Administrative Member), CAT-Chandigarh Bench. The Chief Guest was SH. RAMESH SINGH THAKUR, Member Judicial cm HOD) and the program was Presided by SH. SURESH KUMAR BATRA. The President CAT Bar Association Sh. Rohit Seth along with Sh.K.K.Thakur Vice President and the Executive Committee Members and Members of Bar and Esteemed colleagues were also participants.
Honâble Guest of Honour, Women staff and women lawyers were felicitated for immensely contributing to judicial dispensation system while working for the Institution..
The theme of the program was âWomen Court Lawyers and Staff â Participation in Justice Dispensation Systemâ The program broadly centered on the vital role and contribution of the women advocates and staff while maintaining a positive atmosphere at the workplace.
The speakers spoke on the occasion and highlighted importance and role of women in nation-building.
Sh. Rohit Seth, President, CAT BAR Association spoke about the provisions of the Constitution of India focusing on womenâs empowerment and preventing gender based discrimination and on special provisions made under Article 15 of the constitution of India.. He highlighted that the progress of humanity is incomplete without empowerment of women in Society.
Sh. Thakur said celebration of Women Day reflects gender parity, gender equality. It grew in year 1900 with labour movements, demand for equal wages, right to vote, was celebrated first time by UN in year 1975. Service laws are gender neutral and governed by Rules. Sarojini Naidu played key role in empowerment of Women through education and political participation. National Womenâs Day is celebrated to commerce birth anniversary of Nightingale of India, Ms. Sarojini Naidu.
Madam Sahni emphasized that a woman is a first âGuruâ and âdisciplinary authorityâ who shapes the thinking of a child which further shapes the society. She quoted Gloria Steinem, world renowned feminist, journalist and activist who says, âthe story of womenâs struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to collective efforts of all who care about human rightsâ. She further stressed that Women Empowerment is critical driver for equality, economic growth and social development. She said that Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna has increased access of women to banking and credit facilities. She emphasized on vital role played by judiciary in evolution of women centric laws n stressed the need for greater and effective presence of women at Bar and the Bench.
Sh Batra spoke on the occasion and highlighted importance and role of women in nation-building and that women needs to be honoured and respected every day.
Sh. Pankaj Mohan Kansal, Gen. Secretary, Adhivakta Parishad Chandigarh shared with the audience the Resolution passed during the 16th National Conference of Akhil Bhartiya Adhivakta Parishad held at Kurukshetra, Haryana on 26 to 28 December, 2022 demanding from authorities concerned for adequate representation for women in Bar Councils and Government panels. The function ended with vote of thanks.

Chandigarh Unit in putting so much efforts to make the function a success, All the Members of Legal Fraternity present for the function, All the Lady Staff members of CAT Chandigarh Bench and staff. The guests applauded the manner in which the function was held.
