Made in half an hour, using only 4 basic ingredients, this is a quick and easy recipe for soft and fluffy pita bread. The perfect sandwich bread, especially if you don't have yeast at home.
Ingredients -
2 cups maida/all purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
1 cup warm buttermilk or sour milk
Instructions:
1. Combine the flour, baking powder and salt in a bowl
2. Add the warmed buttermilk or sour milk to the flour mixture and mix with a light hand.
3. Gather all the mixture to form a soft dough.
4. Leave to rest for about 10 to 20 minutes
5. Roll out the dough to about ¼ inch / ½ cm thick.
Place one pita at a time on a non stick or cast iron pan. Cook on low heat for about 1 ½ minutes on each side. After cooked, the pita should puff up to a thickness of about 1 cm
Your pita bread is ready. Slice in the middle to add any stuffing of your choice
