هل تعرفون أنّ سوق العتق قديماً كان يسمى بسوق الصلاحي؟
سميّ سوق الصلاحي نسبة لعائلة الصلاحي، عائلة يافاوية أصلانية، والتي امتلكت بناية سُميت ببناية الصلاحي. بُنيت العمارة بالقرن التاسع عشر غرب ميناء يافا والجامع الكبير.
تم استخدام المبنى كمستودع رئيسي للاستيراد وتصدير السلع المتعددة، وكان يحتوي على عدة غرف وقاعة بأرضيات رخامية فريدة من نوعها مرتبطة بيافا. وقد اكتست البناية بكروم العنب والتين واللواتي وصلن حتى سطح البناية.
تم تسمية شارع الصلاحي باسمه بعد ٦ سنوات من بناء المبنى، وقد أُستخدمت محبوبتنا المنشية كمحل توابل للعائلة بهدف بيع التوابل الفلسطينية المحلية المتعددة ومنها الزّعتر، وهو أمر واضح أيضًا في الأرضيات الرخامية الفلسطينية الفريدة من نوعها في مطعمنا.

Did you know that the Flea Market used to be called the Salahi Market?
The Salahi Market was named after the Salahi family, natives to Jaffa, that owned a building called the Salahi building. The building was built in the 19th century west to Jaffa’s harbor and the Big Mosque. The building was used as a main warehouse for all imported and exported goods, and had several other rooms and a hall with marble flooring unique to Jaffa. It is also shielded by beautiful grape vines and fig trees that go all the up to the roof of the building.
The Salahi street was given its name 6 years after the construction of the building, and our current day beloved Mansheya was used as the family’s spices shop selling local Palestinian spices such as Zaa’tar, something that is also evident in our restaurant’s unique Palestinian marble flooring.
