Keep the good times rolling! Another huge congrats to the Catholic Institute!
WE DID IT!! EYHL 2 CHAMPIONS!!
After a hard fought 70mins and shuttles plus sudden death shuttles, Institute will mix it with the best of the best next season. They are one of the top 10 teams now and will face the likes of Pegasus, UCD, Loreto, Cork Harlequins... to name a few! They will come up against the best Irish internationals and 9 home games in Institute will be incredible to watch.
Full-time in the final was 3-3. Institute came back from 2 nil down and clawed their way back into the game. Queens were the far superior team in the first two quarters. Insta struggled to build any momentum. Institute got a goal back before half time after Róisín Upton went on a great individual run up through the Queen's half and squeezed a shot past the Queen's keeper. A few words of wisdom for the Institute management at half time saw a very different Institute team in the 3rd quarter. Laura Foley levelled the game from a rebound which she took on her reverse and put it past the Queen's keeper. The final quarter was an all to play for quarter. Queens scored their 3rd goal with about 10 mins to go and it looked like it was all over for the Insta girls. After the goal Insta looked dejected but in true Limerick fashion they fought back and played for the crest on their jerseys. Róisín Begley showed superb strength and determination to drive through and eliminate a number of Queens players before passing a lovely ball to Kym Daly who was very smart to put the ball a queen's foot in the circle. Róisín Upton stepped up and dragged in Institute's 3rd goal. The belief was back!!
Shuttles ensued! Credit to Kym Daly, Róisín Upton, Laura Foley, Leah Clery and Eimear Ryan who stood up to take a shuttle. A big mention to Miriam O Callaghan as keeper for Institute who stood strong and tall in the Insta goals and kept Queens players out. End score after the 5 shuttles per team was 2 all. Sudden death was next. Queens were up first in sudden death and with Queens missing, it was down to Insta to score to win the game or face another round of shuttles. Róisín Upton showed all her experience when stepping up and with such calm she pushed the ball past the Queen's keeper to kick off massive celebrations with the Institute team and supporters.
Captain Ciara Moloney spoke incredibly well after the game and thanked an incredible group of Institute supporters for their support over the last few months and for their encouragement from the sidelines over the last two days.
Last thing to say is we are EYHL bound and will unfortunately not take part in Munster league or cup next season.
