🔍 TRUTH OR TALE? – Part 3

Before alarms, CCTV, and security systems, some say round buildings were designed to confuse intruders.

The theory? Once inside, a thief couldn't easily find their way out. With no obvious corners, no clear beginning or end, every direction looked the same. By the time they found the exit, the occupants would have been alerted.

But is there any truth to it... or is it just another tale passed down through the generations?

👀 What do you think: TRUTH or TALE?

Drop your answer below before we reveal it.

Truth or Tale? Part 1 🛢️

Ever noticed something unusual about the building? Its round !!!

Legend has it that when the building was constructed in the 1860s, it was deliberately designed in the shape of a barrel. Why? As a giant advertisement for the business that once operated here — a tea, wine, and spirit merchant.

In an era before neon signs, social media, and billboards, the building itself became the brand.

Look closely at the curved frontage and distinctive shape. Was it a clever piece of Victorian marketing designed to catch the eye of thirsty customers passing by? Or is it simply a story that's grown with every pint poured and every tale told?

So, what's your verdict?

We recently hosted Foxes Bow Whiskey in the Parlour and to celebrate Triona created a unique cocktail based on the Texan Release.

Triona worked to showcase the whiskey flavours but also to compliment the locality

We think she did a great job. Let us know your thoughts.

What Glass do you use?

A common question in the house is about the best glassware to use for tasting. While we would never tell you how to drink your whiskey, Mike will tell you about Tuath glasses.

Step beyond the pub door and into the Parlour. 🇮🇪🥃

In Irish homes, the parlour was a sacred place.
A room opened for guests, stories, songs, laughter, and conversation that could last long into the night. It wasn’t about rushing — it was about belonging.

At Peggy’s Whiskey Parlour inside Mother Macs Public House, we’ve kept that tradition alive.

Every bottle on the shelf holds a story.
Of the people who made it.

The families behind it.

The towns, the music, the history, the characters.

And Mike?

He’s just one of the storytellers pouring them back to life.

If you’ve ever wanted to experience the real Ireland — not the postcard version, but the feeling of sitting in a warm room while stories and songs fill the air — this is it.

Pull up a chair.

There’s a reason the Irish Coffee has stood the test of time.

It’s not just a drink — it’s balance in a glass. ☕🥃

Part 4 of our Irish Coffee Story sees Mike craft the perfect serve: The sweetness of sugar,
the astringency of rich coffee, the warmth of Irish whiskey, and the smooth flavour of fresh cream floating gently on top.

Four simple elements. One perfect harmonious marriage.

No gimmicks. No shortcuts.

Just tradition, technique, and a little bit of Irish magic.

Experience it for yourself at Mother Macs Public House.
