What are we?
Hi,
I am creating this club because I feel as a language student the best way to learn a language is through conversation. The intention of this club is for everyone who would like to speak a language, whether it is their own native tongue or beginners looking for exposure to their new language. I wish to have as many languages covered which includes English and Irish. This club will be free or at worst have a small fee to cover activities. The club will be run by it’s members. The club will meet in a pub, I want to take languages from the classroom or workplace and have it in a fun and relaxing setting, it is also my night off.
If you are a native speaker, this is an ideal place to meet compatriots. If you are a learner, it is an ideal place to meet people who are also learning, it is not a replacement for the classroom but it will complement your learning, the main thing is that you have an opportunity to speak.
How does it work? It’s a remarkbly simple concept, you sit at a table with people who speak the same language, grab a beer (or other tasty beverage) and talk in your chosen language. There is no structure as I want it to be as far removed from a formal classroom as possible. The only rule is that once you sit at a table, you may only speak the language of that table.
