Sheahan’s Bar Kildorrery will unfortunately be opening its doors for the last time at 4pm this Friday December 31st and closing permanently at 8pm. The decision to close has been a very difficult one to make, however the reality of the current trading environment dictates that it is no longer viable to maintain the business.
We would like to thank all of our friends and customers who have supported us over the years, through good times and bad. A special thanks to all of the amazing people who have stood behind the bar over the years – each and every one of you is a legend!
We have seen couples meeting, proposals, and weddings. Fond farewells, food fairs and festivals. Many a baby’s head has been wet here over the years, and many friends have had their final send-offs here. Games of cards, pool, darts and quizzes all added immensely to the life of the bar and got the craic and banter going. The problems of the entire world have been (almost) solved on many occasions over a late pint or drop. We’ve celebrated with North Cork champions, County champions, Munster champions, All-Ireland champions and World champions. We’ve had cocktails, we’ve had contours, and we even once had a chainsaw show. And of course we have enjoyed great live music and dance over the years made all the better by great crowds dancing and singing along.
The business was established in the early 1950s by my grandfather Danny and grandmother Catherine when they moved with their family from what is now the old Garda barracks on Farahy Road to Main Street. In 1973 my father added the lounge / dancefloor area and the layout has remained largely unchanged since then. I’m thinking especially of my parents and Kildorrery grandparents today and the hard work and love they put into the shop and bar businesses in their lifetimes.
We will of course be staying in Main Street as residents for the long term. We look forward to maintaining the friendships we have throughout the community as we move on to the next chapter.
Thank you always,
Danny and Namju
