Greville Arms Golf Society Granard..
We held our annual general meeting on Saturday 13th of January 2024. Even with the rough weather conditions we had a nice turnout. We discussed all the events of the last 12 months including the society's first golf trip abroad to Fuengirola in Spain, which everone agreed was a great success.
We welcomed in the 2024 captain, Martin Reilly, and wished him well for the year ahead before voting in the new executive which are as follows,

Outings
The first outing of 2024 was held on Saturday the 23rd of March in Castledargan Co. Sligo, which seen very tricky conditions. Where the rain held off the wind made up for it.
The results as follows;
1st overall with a score of 36 points Mick Murray.
2nd overall on count back with a score of 34 Sean Corr.
Category 2 winner, Seamus Ross with a score of 30 points.
Closest to the pin, Sean Corr.
Longest Drive, Eugene Lynch.
Congratulations to Mick Murray for a great score under tricky conditions and Sean Corr for securing second place on the day. Hard luck to Eugene Lynch narrowly missing 2nd place on a count back.
The next society outing will be held in Rathcore Golf Club with a Tee time of 12pm.
All new members and visitors welcome.

2023AGM

The Greville Arms golf society Granard held their 2023 AGM in Fays pub Granard on the 25-02-2023.

Despite the bad weather we had a good turn out and we would like to thank Sinead and her staff for looking after us. We talked about the past years outings, the great success they were, and also we
discussed our outing for 2023 with the highlight of our trip to Spain at the end of the year which had to be previously cancelled due to the pandemic. Our first outing of 2023 takes place in Moyvally golf club on Saturday 25th of March with a tee time of 12.15.

Our 2020 Captains Day was held in Newforest Golf Club.
Well done to Captain Eugene Lynch on a very successful and enjoyable day.

Our weekend away was in the excellent but challenging championship course in Rosses Point.
Captain Bernard's choice of venue was very much appreciated by the golfers present.
While it was windy on the Fri the fact it stayed dry on both days was a bonus.
The Yeats county hotel could not have been better with comfortable spacious rooms good food and one or two drinks had by all.

Results of Autumn Shield Trophy which took place at Glasson Golf Club on August 24th with 20 members present: Team Winners – Dean O’ Shea, Eugene Lynch, Sean Corr, Martin Reilly; Nearest Pin – Kevin Tighe; Longest Drive – Bernard McElvaney; CAT B Winner – Barney Kiernan; Second Overall – Kevin Tighe (37pts); First Overall – Eugene Lynch (37pts) who was declared winner on count-back. Congratulations to Eugene on putting together a fine round of golf which was played from the back tees. Kevin Tighe’s score -playing of 9 - is also to be highly commended. Standards of play in the Society are very high at the moment. Worthy of note is Dean O’ Shea’s recent winning of the prestigious O’ Connor Cup at Rosse’s Point. His run of form was extended to Longford Golf Club where he added the Bar Cup to his growing collection. The sheet is virtually full for the away trip to Rosse’s Point which takes place on the week-end of October 11/12.

Greville Arms Golf Society:
The Captains Prize which is the biggest days in the Society year was played for on July 13th at Moyvalley Golf Resort on a most beautiful summer’s day. Results: Team Winners - Ned Monaghan, Barney Kiernan, Seamus Finnan (107pts); Longest Drive – Bernard McElvaney; Nearest Pin – Seamus Finnan; Category B Winner – Joe McElvaney (30pts); Second Overall – David Grant (41pts); First Overall – Seamus Finnan (41pts), declared winner on countback. A welcome back to action is extended to Sean Flood who has made a great recovery from an injury sustained earlier in the year. Thanks to Society Captain, Bernard McElvaney, for the prizes and for having everything so well organised on the day. Next outing is to Glasson Golf Course on Saturday, August 24th. Deposits will be taken on the day for the weekend away to Sligo on October 11th and 12th.

Greville Arms Golf Society

The Greville Arms Society overcame the challenge of The Barney Mac Society on Saturday last at Longford Golf Course on a score of 349 pts to 321pts.
The result was based on the best ten cards from each Society. Individual results: Nearest the Pin, Dominick King (B Mac); Longest Drive, Bernard McElvaney;
First Overall, Benny Byrd - 42pts (B Mac);
First (Greville), Mick Ford (42pts);
Second (Greville), Ian Campbell (41pts).
We thank Saturday’s opponents for their sportsmanship over the day and say well done to all individual prize winners. Next society outing is to Esker Hills on Sunday June 16th.
