As has been tradition for decades past, anytime Tipperary senior hurlers contest an All Ireland final, a commemoration ceremony in memory to the late Tipperary patriot Sean Treacy takes place at 12 noon before the match who was murdered by British Crown forces at 94 Talbot St in 1920 during the War of Independence. This Sunday will be particularly significant as the GAA President Jarlath Burns will attend the ceremony.
As proud Tipperary people we further remember this weekend Michael Hogan from Grangemockler who was murdered by the Brits on the hallowed turf of Croke Park on Bloody Sunday 1920.
May our outstanding hurlers who will represent the famous Blue and Gold jersey at 3.30 on Sunday afternoon produce a performance that Tipperary people everywhere can be proud of.
May they be inspired by the mighty Tipp men of yore the likes of Treacy,The Hogans, Breen, Robinson and many more.
May they be further inspired by the great hurlers of past times, The Doyles, Carey, Wall, Nealon, Roche, Dwyer,English, Fox, Cleary, Callinan and all the the other great men who delivered big time for our beloved county over the years.
May the Liam McCarthy be lifted aloft on the steps of the Hogan by Ronan at 5.30 Sunday evening and return to its rightful home in the Premier County.
May Liam be held aloft in our Field of Legends on Monday night and may our beautiful anthems Slievenamon and The Galtee Mountain Boy reverberate and sung with passion and pride on the highways and byways of Tipperary in the weeks and months to come.
