Great to see so many positive developments at the Glashapullagh site in West Limerick. Vegetation returning to the reprofiled peat bank, which will protect and stabilise the soil. The timber and composite dams, the peat plugs are slowing the flow of water to allow sphagnum mosses to return. The Coir logs are slowly starting to decompose having created banks of moss and new growth in their fibres. The geotextile is protecting heathers on the exposed slopes so that seeds can germinate, establish and grow. All this is one season of restoration!

Kelvin and Eoin from the Tralee team hosted a number of farmers for an in-depth training session, specifically looking at Japenese Knotweed stem injection and foliar spray treatment in West Limerick. (Despite a power outage!) The training was very successful, due mainly to the great engagement from the local farmers, and their desire to tackle this invasive species.

Mona's farm is one of the best examples of diversification on a farm that you'll see. Farming in a Hen Harrier SPA there are some restrictions so you need to be sensitive to the habitats around you. Mona, along with her family, have created a beautiful, enterprising farm and ACRES support this through the approval of fencing actions, and rodenticide-free pest control which complement the barn owl boxes Mona has put in place.

ACRES Stories: Seamus from Myshall, Co. Carlow

Seamus installed a number of gates to improve the field boundaries of his land and to make life a little bit easier for moving between fields. Seamus and his wife Maureen wanted an Orchard on their land and through ACRES they were given the opportunity to plant these native varieties which they look forward to enjoying (through Maureen's baking!) for many years to come.
