NATIONAL SERVICE DAY 2023
What a pleasure and honour it has been to be involved with helping to organise Drogheda's very first National Service Day that kicks off this Saturday September 2nd.
What a fantastic opportunity this is going to be for the people of Drogheda to come out and see our local heroes, heroes without capes, local people who give selflessly of their time to ensure that our communities can be safer and better especially when danger presents itself. A chance for all of us to say THANK YOU.
This Saturday our celebration kicks off from 11am | Enjoy some family entertainment on West Street.
12pm | The highlight of the day is our NSD Parade.
Get your best viewing spot from Laurence Street or West Street and shout, applaud, cheer, sing and dance as we acknowledge and THANK all our local services that make a significant contribution to our community, led by several brass bands, a pipe band and a samba band. They will be emergency vehicles, fire brigades, and lots of sirens- lot of noise and colour!
Our wonderful MC Alison Comyn DI will do the honours of announcing each service as they pass by our viewing stand at St. Peters Church all in their service colours, colours that make up their identity and filled with pride.
11am to 3pm | After the parade, pop down to our National Services Day Exhibition Village and meet our service men and women up close and personal.
Down here you will learn more about each of the services, see demonstrations, receive information and see all of the emergency vehicles and equipment up close.
🌞 By all accounts the weather will be good!
🚧 ROAD CLOSURES: Please expect rolling road closures that will gradually open up as the parade passes by.
♿ DISABILITIES: Those with disabilities and can produce a blue badge will be able to gain access from narrow West Street to park in the Abbey Car Park.
🔹SENSORY: Those with sensory issues will be able to see our parade with very little noise at Dominic street.
Please share this post and let's celebrate these local heroes that only Drogheda and our surrounding districts know how to do - In style and with pride...
