Hidden within the woods at Cong in County Mayo, the Monk’s Fishing Hut looks like something lifted from another era 😲🌿

Perched out over Lough Corrib, the tiny stone structure is believed to have been used by monks for fishing and quiet reflection centuries ago.

It’s connected to the shoreline by a narrow stone beam that you can carefully walk across 🚶

The best first view is from across the bank, where you can properly take in how unusual the little hut looks sitting above the water. Visit when it’s quiet and all you’ll hear is the wind moving through the trees around the lake 🌊

There are few places like Northern Ireland's Slieve Gullion for views of patchwork green fields as far as the eye can see 😍

This is a mighty, but very steep, drive that's part of the Ring of Gullion drive - have you tried it yet? If so, what did you think? 🤔

One of the finest short drives in Ireland - the Inagh Valley in Connemara 🚗🏔️

The drive itself only takes around 20 minutes, but this place leaves an impression that lasts a lot longer. The road cuts through a vast glacial valley, with the Twelve Bens rising on one side and the Maumturk Mountains on the other 🌊🗺️

It’s one of those stretches of road where the landscape feels almost untouched - shifting weather, towering mountains and wide open land with barely a building in sight.

Standing guard over the harbour on Inishbofin Island, the weathered ruins of Cromwell’s Barracks are one of the most striking sights off the Connemara coast 🏰🌊

Built in the 1600s, the star-shaped fort was once used to imprison Catholic priests while also keeping watch for pirates and enemy ships 😬

Today, its sea-battered shell sits on Port Island opposite the spot where Gráinne Mhaol - Ireland’s famous pirate queen - is said to have had a stronghold of her own 😮‍💨

Cushendun and Cushendall are two of the real stand-out villages along the Causeway Coastal Route 😍🌊

Set along the Antrim coastline, both make excellent bases for exploring the area, with beaches, scenic drives, waterfalls and countless other attractions all close by 🗺️
