The snug here in Kehoes is an authentic Victorian Era snug with a rich history, if you've ever wondered about our snug, here's some facts you may not have known;

- original snugs had to have a separate entrance off the main road
- fully enclosed with frosted glass to stop people seeing in
- a bell for service which was most often done through the hatch to the bar
- you can see here the bell is beside the striker which was used for lighting a cigarette
- in the 19th century the closed door snug helped open the door to women drinking acceptibly in public.
- women were not the only ones who used snugs, they were also used by clergy members, professionals or anyone who did not want to be seen in the main public area but still get the atmosphere of going to the pub - Today, it is the most coveted seat in the house
