“conas atá tú,” John Collins—. RIP

A man who walked through our doors and found the rhythm of his soul in dance. John Collins—a gentle spirit with a soft smile and kind eyes—greeted the world with the warmth of “conas atá tú,” embodying the heart of the Irish language he cherished so deeply.

My last conversation - He shared how these moments—these dances, these connections—were among the most beautiful of his life. He longed for the return of Salsa Dublin, where his heart found its beat, and his spirit came alive.

John was not just a lover of salsa, bachata, and kizomba; he was a bridge between passions, hosting weekly gatherings to celebrate his love for the Irish language while bringing people together in joy and unity...

A man with a gentle walk and a gentle lead, he moved through life like a dancer on a stage—light, purposeful, and unforgettable. His hat, his smile, his kindness, his presence—they are etched into our hearts, woven into the fabric of our community.

John, you will be remembered in the sway of the music, the spark of a smile, the touch of a hand, and the light in our eyes as we dance.

Rest in peace, dear friend. You were, and always will be, the soul of Salsa Dublin.

Hello Social Dancers,

I hope this message finds you well. ❤️‍🩹

Originally, I had planned to open this year 2024, but unforeseen circumstances regarding my health changed my life plans entirely. It was a wake-up call to reorganize my priorities and redirect my focus, given the limited time we have on this earth.

However, I have not given up. I’ve simply shifted my approach, reducing the pressure I take on and focusing on achieving my goals more effectively.

I have secured the building, but I’ve decided to turn this project into a non-profit initiative. This change will significantly reduce costs and allow me to redirect the investment towards attracting top social dance teachers local and global. Over the years, I’ve worked closely with local TDs to create a strong plan—not just for one social dance building, but two! These spaces will help nurture the growth of the social dance culture, promoting the well-being of Dublin’s residents.

Ounces the legal work and funding are finalized, I hope to begin promoting job vacancies and facilitate the establishment of the Social Dance Hub in Dublin. The hub will include as original plan social events, a café, a bar, entertainment, and creative cultural projects with shows and evening dining.

Happy Christmas & New Year!
I hope 2025 will be the year Dublin gets what it truly deserves: amazing teachers and a talented team whose core values are rooted in passion, giving, and growth.

Warm regards,
Marinko Leka

Salsa Dublin or I no longer run events for the time being, but I feel the Irish Salsa and Bachata promoters of the dance community have let us down by not reacting and running charity events for thousands of Palestinian children who are being killed daily.

I hope you find your humanity and sponsor whatever you can to those organizations that are doing an incredible job for the Palestinian people.

Another Christmas and another year.

For the past couple of years, Christmas has found Salsa Dublin closed, with empty chairs waiting to be filled on our reopening. But this time, all is different.

Over the couple of years, Salsa Dublin has gone into deep reflection and is working on a plan that is a timeless vision, a timeless project, and a timeless building design to last more than a lifetime.

The all-transformative goal is to apply timeless principles by constantly pressing to stay in the present and embrace the timeless, repetitive human experience. Be thankful for life, joy, happiness, hugs, expression, and moments that last a lifetime in our memories.

With that, Salsa Dublin wishes you timeless memories, connections, joy, hugs, and smiles wherever everyone is during this festive season.

See you in 2024.

Today is Anna Doyle Birthday. We wish her a happy birthday.

Her story how impactful dance was for her.

Embarking on my salsa journey in 2006 wasn't just a personal choice; it was a transformative decision that resonated with my passion for dance. Prior to that, my husband, friends, and family bore the brunt of my relentless pursuit of dance, as I dragged them to nightclubs while they longed for quiet drinks or dinner. Little did they know, a dormant dancer within me awaited the perfect opportunity to emerge.

Salsa became my outlet, my challenge, and my path of progression. From the early days of beginner classes to venturing into improver and intermediate levels, joining a dance group, performing, competing, attending international congresses, and eventually teaching—each step was a unique challenge that fueled my determination.

The journey wasn't just about learning dance steps; it was a continuous evolution. Two kids later, who once humorously thought my English vocabulary consisted solely of "one, two, three, five, six, and seven," I found myself addicted to the rhythm, the challenges, and the vibrant community that salsa offered.

Salsa Dublin, under the dedicated leadership of Mario, became more than a dance school; it became a family. Mario's commitment to growing the salsa scene in Dublin and prioritizing students made the journey even more enriching. Teaching, performing, and being part of the Salsa Dublin team became not just roles but expressions of gratitude for the wonderful people and memories salsa brought into my life.

As Salsa Dublin celebrates its 5th Anniversary, I reflect on the countless moments of joy, laughter, and growth. To all the amazing students who have been my partners in this dance of life, thank you for teaching me as much as I've taught you. Here's to many more years of shared passion, challenges, and unforgettable moments on the dance floor! Happy Anniversary, Salsa Dublin! 🎉

Meet Peter Mooney, the Salsa legend of Ireland at over 80 years old. Following the loss of his wife, Peter sought purpose 12 years ago, discovering it in the rhythmic world of social dancing. Renowned for his gentle leading, passion for dance, and kind manners, he has become a respected figure among dancers.

Peter's story is one of inspiration, marked by a positive attitude toward life, unwavering resilience, and a commitment to ensuring every day counts. He tends to his presence each day, crafting a narrative of mindful living.

Having recently encountered Peter after four years, I witnessed his continued zest for life—still dancing and traversing Ireland with vigor. His amazing attitude towards life, one's own body, and the energy shared with others is truly commendable.

Well done, Peter Mooney! 👏 Your journey is a testament to the enduring power of passion, resilience, and a positive outlook on life."
