Dublin’s premiere genre-blind salon series, Kaleidoscope Night, is back for another captivating instalment of boundary-pushing performance, intimate chamber music, and exceptional artistry. Known for transforming live music experiences into vibrant, social, and immersive events, the monthly series invites music lovers to step outside the ordinary and into a world of sonic exploration.
This special event marks the penultimate concert curated by cellist Lioba Petrie in her role as Artistic Director, celebrating years of visionary programming that has shaped Dublin’s contemporary, classical, and experimental music scene.
True to its reputation as a home for lesser-heard, rarely-heard, and never-heard small-ensemble masterworks, the upcoming edition promises an eclectic line up of top-tier performers spanning classical, contemporary, and alternative sounds.
Featured November Performers:
· The Esposito Quartet: Fresh from their nationwide tour, this highly esteemed quartet will perform Kevin Volans’ iconic work, “White Man Sleeps”.

· Miguel Girão: Award-winning guitarist originally from the Portuguese Midlands and now based in Glasgow, Scotland. Miguel explores musical traditions from across the globe, seamlessly fusing them with classical and contemporary aesthetics.

· 4 In A Bar: The fan-favourite vocal quartet makes a welcome return to the Kaleidoscope stage, presenting a delightful and varied vocal programme centred entirely around the theme of Animals.

· William Jack: Making his debut performance on the Kaleidoscope Night stage, the award-winning Australian cellist and songwriter seamlessly bridges jazz, virtuosic folk, bluegrass, and non-Western soundscapes.

Featured artist: Máire Carroll

Dr Máire Carroll is a hugely versatile performer and composer who has performed throughout Europe, Asia, and North America including performances at Wigmore Hall, Carnegie Hall, National Opera House in Tallinn, Liszt Academy in Budapest, and the Princess Grace Library in Monaco. As the first pianist in Ireland to be awarded the prestigious RDS Music Bursary, Máire maintains a diverse wide-ranging programme of solo and collaborative work, from baroque to twenty-first-century repertoire. Her solo piano composition ‘Lavinia Fontana’ was commissioned by the National Gallery of Ireland in celebration of their exhibition, Lavinia Fontana: Trailblazer, Rulebreaker. Her critically acclaimed album Máire Carroll:The Complete Piano Études of Philip Glass was released on Delphian Records and was chosen by The Scotsman as one of the top five classical music records of 2024, “..She does everything Glass asks for, then applies the expert pianist’s touch”. Committed to championing the music of today, 2026 has seen Máire release two albums on the Ergodos label, one solo and the other collaborative. This includes Caterina Schembri’s solo piano suite, A birch forest seen, imagined, and remembered, and Still is the Night, a new record by composer Garrett Sholdice, alongside mezzo-soprano Michelle O’Rourke.

Featured artist: Izumi Kimura

Japanese-born, Ireland-based pianist Izumi Kimura has performed extensively in Ireland and internationally since moving to Ireland in 1995.

A fearless explorer of contemporary music, she works across classical, jazz and improvised music as a performer, composer and improviser. Izumi has collaborated with leading musicians, ensembles and composers, including RTÉ orchestras, Crash Ensemble, Barry Guy, Gerry Hemingway, Benoît Delbecq, Dominique Pifarély and many others.

Her work has been presented at festivals across Ireland and Europe, as well as in Brazil and beyond.

Featured artist: Ryan Molloy

Ryan Molloy’s compositional work engages with the boundary of contemporary music and traditional Irish music, drawing on his extensive experience as a traditional Irish fiddler and pianist. Ryan’s has written over fifty works and his music has been performed to audiences on four continents for over fifteen years, as well as featuring regularly in national and international TV and radio broadcasts (including BBC, RTÉ and UTV). Ryan was awarded the prestigious TG4 Gradam Ceoil Composer of the Year in 2024. He has been commissioned by both RTÉ and the BBC, as well as a range of renowned performers such as the Danish String Quartet, Ulster Orchestra, Irish Chamber Orchestra, and Hard Rain Soloist Ensemble. He has represented Ireland at the prestigious ISCM World New Music Days festivals in Hong Kong (2015), Vancouver (2017) and Auckland/Christchurch (2022).

Ryan has recorded on over thirty albums as a pianist, composer and arranger and in both 2020 and 2021 he was nominated in the RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Awards Best Folk Instrumentalist category in recognition of this work.

Described as a ‘milestone’ in traditional piano performance, Ryan’s critically acclaimed first solo recording ‘pianophony’ was released in 2019. 2021 saw the release of Tempered, a new CD of music for uilleann pipes and piano, as well as a digital EP featuring the 30-minute song cycle ‘Buaine na Gaoithe’ performed by its commissioners, the Damselfly Trio. Ryan is Associate Professor of Composition at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth.

Featured artist: Hugh Tinney

Hugh Tinney is one of Ireland’s leading pianists, with an international career spanning more than four decades.

He first gained international recognition after winning first prize at the 1983 Pozzoli Competition in Italy and the 1984 Paloma O’Shea Competition in Spain, followed by a prize at the 1987 Leeds Piano Competition.

Since then, Hugh has performed in more than 35 countries, appearing with leading orchestras including the London Philharmonic, Philharmonia, Royal Philharmonic, BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Ireland’s National Symphony Orchestra. He made his BBC Proms debut in 1989 performing Beethoven’s Emperor Concerto.

A major figure in Irish musical life, Hugh has performed over 60 concertos, alongside extensive solo and chamber music work. He has recorded for RTÉ lyric fm and international labels, and has been Artistic Director of Music in Great Irish Houses and co-founder of the Westport Festival of Chamber Music.

Hugh is a Professor of Piano at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Music by NUI in 2007.

Recent highlights include performances with the National Symphony Orchestra, Dublin International Chamber Music Festival, Music for Galway’s Cellissimo festival, and the world première of Raymond Deane’s Anaphora with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.

Featured artist: James McVinnie

James McVinnie is a celebrated organist and keyboard player known for his adventurous programming, innovative collaborations and captivating musicianship.

He has premiered major works written for him by composers and artists including Nico Muhly, Gabriella Smith, Tristan Perich, David Lang, Bryce Dessner, Hildur Guðnadóttir and Squarepusher.

McVinnie directs the James McVinnie Ensemble, a collective of virtuoso keyboardists exploring contemporary music and works addressing political and social themes.

A member of Icelandic collective Bedroom Community, he has released acclaimed recordings featuring music by Nico Muhly, J.S. Bach, Philip Glass and Squarepusher.

His performances have taken him to leading venues and orchestras worldwide, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, Southbank Centre and Walt Disney Concert Hall.

Featured artist: Finghin Collins

One of Ireland’s most successful musicians, Finghin Collins was born in Dublin in 1977 and studied piano at the Royal Irish Academy of Music with John O’Conor and at the Geneva Conservatoire with Dominique Merlet. He took first prize at the Clara Haskil International Piano Competition in Switzerland in 1999. Since then he has continued to enjoy a flourishing international career that takes him all over Europe and the United States, as well to the Far East and Australia.

Collins has performed with many of the world’s finest orchestras and conductors. He has also given solo recitals in many of the world’s most prestigious halls and participates frequently in chamber music festivals with a variety of colleagues of international standing. Finghin Collins is very active as a programmer, commissioner and concert presenter in Ireland, having been Artistic Director of the New Ross Piano Festival since its inception in 2006, and Artistic Director of Music for Galway since 2013. In March 2023 he was appointed Artistic Director of the Dublin International Piano Competition. He will chair the jury of the Clara Haskil International Piano Competition in Switzerland in 2023 and 2025.

In October 2017, the National University of Ireland conferred on him an honorary Degree of Doctor of Music, in recognition of his outstanding achievements.

Guest curator:

Sam Perkin is a composer based between France and Ireland, working in the space between classical and experimental music. His music has been performed in 20 countries and is characterised by a particular fascination with wonder, awe and the possibilities of sound.

He has collaborated with leading musicians and ensembles including the Irish Chamber Orchestra, RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, Gábor Takács-Nagy, the Vanbrugh Quartet, Marmen Quartet, Crash Ensemble, Explore Ensemble, Alex Petcu, Finghin Collins and Vicky Chow. His work has also been commissioned and presented by festivals across Ireland and internationally, including Kilkenny Arts Festival, Galway International Arts Festival, West Cork Chamber Music Festival, Musica Nova Festival in Helsinki and Network for New Music in Philadelphia.
