GEDGE, one of our headliners for our Sober rave at the weekend. Heres' a bit of history!
What is Genesis?
Genesis was born out of the "afterparty" scene in the mid 90's. Founders and residents Gedge and Mig started playing in houses, fields and beaches that were promoted through the old school platform of flyers and landlines! The lads started playing in Fusion, above McGraths's on O'Connell Street, which, was becoming an important part of the Dublin techno scene.
Genesis then found it's way to a residency in McGraths on Bank holiday Sundays, quickly it was selling out, full house of eager techno heads, who themselves became a vital part of the Genesis movement.
Genesis, was a collective of creatives, each person playing an integral part of bringing the ethos to life. It was never about the DJs, it was about the folk that made it happen, Boz creating the artwork, the Crew tirelessly handing out flyers, the folk helping with the equipment, lighting, club decor and of course, the crowd dancing their socks off!
We liked to mix it up on the decks, having a well known DJ alongside up and coming talent.
Some regular guests were Francois, Jon Hussey, Pat Hyland, Warren K and Ollie Moore. We were thrilled to have the DJs who were beginning to make names for themselves, Sunil Sharpe and Giles Armstrong among others.
We never got rich! but that was never the purpose, thanks to the help of the collective, we kept door price to the minimum, split everything evenly, any little extra got put back in to the club.
Genesis appeared regularly on Friday nights in Parnell Mooneys and showed up in the Ormond Multimedia Centre and the Temple Bar Music Centre. We also got involved with Technocracy crew and the free party scene, on mountains, fields and beaches all over!
We're very excited to bring Genesis back, for 1 last chapter, same residents, same ethos, same artists and hopefully a reunion of all of you that made it happen!
