Whelehans Wines was launched in 2014 by David Whelehan in the flagship location of the Silver Tassie in South County Dublin. David has been submerged in the world of wine for over 40 years. Tutored by his father ‘TP’ he learned the rudiments of wine tasting at an early age and continues to fine tune his palate daily. David has built up a great team of knowledgeable and enthusiastic wine profession

als and with their help he has built up one of the most exciting wine offerings in Ireland. The company ships eighty percent of the wines they offer directly from some of the world’s greatest and most highly awarded wineries. The company developed organically and now encompasses a highly awarded Wine Bar, Wine school, Corporate Gift Division and a fledgling Wholesale company. The company’s tagline is ‘Great Wine, Great Taste we take great service as a given and are only too pleased to go the extra mile. We delight in chatting about wine to the most knowledgeable but derive just as much pleasure in welcoming and encouraging the latest recruit to wine. Best Fine Wine Merchant (Dublin) 2019

“David Whelehan and his highly talented staff are now offering a world class experience, one you will scarcely see matched outside of Berry Brothers and Rudd in London, Lavinia in Paris or Astor Wines in New York. A beyond-worthy continuing winner and a place Irish wine lovers should really cherish”. Tomás Clancy -Sunday Business Post. 6th January 2019

Summer, at Whelehans Wines, is not a season—it’s a shift in how we drink, gather, and savour.

It’s crisp whites with a quiet tension of acidity, rosé that carries wild strawberry and saline freshness, and lighter reds served just below room temperature, revealing a different side of familiar regions. It’s wines chosen not for occasion, but for mood—sunlight through glass, long evenings, and food that asks for something precise alongside it.

Our shelves move with the season. Loire Valley Sauvignon with that unmistakable mineral line, alpine-style whites that thrive in warm weather, and elegant reds that reward a gentle chill. Each bottle selected with intention—so what you open feels exactly right for the moment.

And on Fridays and Saturdays, the tasting bar becomes part of that experience. A place to discover something new, to refine your palate, or simply to enjoy a glass before deciding what comes home with you.

Summer doesn’t demand complexity. But it does reward those who pay attention.

An evening shaped by provenance, precision, and quiet mastery.

The Loire Premier brings together two distinct voices — Julien Comte and David Whelehan — to explore one of France’s most nuanced regions through a carefully considered pairing of wines and artisan cheeses.

Expect wines that speak clearly of place: mineral-driven whites, elegant reds, and styles that reveal the Loire’s remarkable diversity. Each pour is thoughtfully matched with cheeses selected to enhance texture, balance, and expression — creating a tasting that is both educational and deeply enjoyable.

This is not a standard tasting. It is a guided experience in understanding how wine and food interact at the highest level.

Join us on April 23rd at 7pm in Whelehans Wines.

Limited seats available.

Rarity. Allocation. Access.

The Heritage Collection is reserved for those who understand that the most compelling wines are rarely the most visible.

Each delivery brings six bottles drawn from small allocations — wines that seldom reach the open market, sourced directly from growers whose work we believe in.

This is not a selection designed to please everyone.
It is curated with intent — for those who value provenance, precision, and the quiet confidence of exceptional wine.

A cellar, built slowly. Properly.

An evening that moves beyond tasting — and into understanding.

On Friday 17th April, we welcome Pablo de Simón for an intimate masterclass exploring the depth and precision of Valserrano, one of Rioja Alavesa’s most respected estates.

From limestone-rich soils to the subtle influence of microclimate, this is a rare opportunity to experience the philosophy behind the wines — guided by the hands that shape them. Expect wines of structure, elegance and remarkable longevity, from finely judged whites to deeply expressive, age-worthy reds.

Paired thoughtfully with artisanal cheese and charcuterie, each element of the evening is designed to reveal the layers, texture and quiet power of these wines.

Limited to just 30 guests, this is intentionally intimate — more conversation than event.

Friday 17th April
7–9pm
