Cork Ignite Join us on Culture Night 2015 for a major outdoor event as Cork’s College of Commerce is brought to life with wild 3D projections and accompanying music.

International artist Simon Mckeown has been commissioned by the National Sculpture Factory and Create Ireland to develop a new large scale outdoors arts commission, ‘Cork Ignite’. 'Cork Ignite' will use a mix of digital technology and disability ethos and culture, featuring a significant collaborative element with artists in Cork towards a major event for this year's Culture Night in Cork. gnite is supported by artist resource and commissioning body the National Sculpture Factory (Ireland) and collaborative arts agency Create in association with Arts Council Ireland, Arts & Disability Ireland, COPE Foundation, Cork City Council, SoundOUT, Suisha Inclusive Arts and Teesside University. Ignite is managed by a unique partnership involving the Arts Council, Arts & Disability Ireland, Cork City Council, Galway City and County Councils, and Mayo County Council. Simon Mckeown
Simon was born with Osteogenesis Imperfecta, a condition causing extremely fragile bones. Trained in fine art and a Reader in Computer Animation at Teesside University, Simon was awarded his own London 2012 commission and took part in two other London 2012 projects. One of these was as Visual Director for 'Prometheus Awakes' with Graeae Theatre and international outdoor theatre company La Fura Dels Baus from Barcelona presented at Greenwich and Docklands International Festival and Stockton International Riverside Festival. His work follows his obsession with motion capture and the beauty of motion. His original piece of work, Motion Disabled, went global in a single day when it was projected on to buildings in 17 countries all over the world.

Dear Cork Ignite team - I am after many years of creating large-scale exciting projects with disabled and learning disabled people across the UK, Europe the USA (and not forgetting Ireland)! presenting a comprehensive talk on my practice. It is intended to be fun, irreverent and a little bit trailblazing - all about how disability interacts with mainstream culture.

The inaugural professorial talk is on the 16th (Thursday) of June 2022 at 5:30 pm at Teesside University

Hi Everyone, just a quick message to say that Trace Elements, an exhibition which looks at Cork Ignite will be on in Liverpool at FACT during March 2016. We will know more about dates and so on in the next few days and will post. It would be lovely to see you there!
