Cork Opera House and Coughlanâs Live Promotions have announced the full line up for this yearâs Right Here, Right Now Festivalwhich takes place from Friday February 21st to Sunday February 23rd. The festival boasts a diverse mix of music throughout the weekend in three venues around Cork City; Cork Opera House, Coughlanâsand Cyprus Avenue. Now in itâs third year, the festival occupies a new February slot in the calendar as it celebrates the vibrant and eclectic music scene in Cork.
The Cork Opera House Concert Orchestra (COHCO) provide for two festival highlights performing with RTĂ Choice Award nominee Mick Flannery and Valerie June on Saturday 22ndbefore sharing the stage with Donal Lunny, MĂĄirtĂn O Connor, Nell NĂ ChrĂłinĂn, Strung and more in a very special evening of Trad and Folk music curated by Cork composer, arranger and pianist Cormac McCarthy. The orchestra now in its fifth year is comprised of a mixture of musicians, some who live leeside, and some who are delighted to return home to Cork to take part in the many orchestral concerts programmed by Cork Opera House.
Explosive ten-piece funk band Toucan kick start the festival in Cyprus Avenue on Friday 21st at 7:30pm with special guests Robert John Ardiff & The Catholic Guilt, and Paddy Dennehy. Dan Walshâs Cork based improv outfit Fixity play The Green Room in Cork Opera House at 8:30pm followed by a DJ set by The Altered Hoursâ Cathal and Elaine. The first night of the festival is capped off by RTE Choice Music Award nominated artist Marlene Enright as she launches her new EP Petrichor in Coughlans at 9:30pm supported by Louis Cormack.
Following the acclaimed release of his debut album Pull The Tight Rope in 2019 Junior Brother returns to Cork playing two afternoon shows in Coughlans on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rdat 4pm. Multi-instrumentalist and RTE Folk Award Nominee Anna Miekeplays The Green Room in Cork Opera House at 6pm on the Saturday evening with support from Caoilian Sherlock.
Mick Flannery celebrates his recent nomination for RTE Choice Music Award along with Tennessee singer-songwriter Valerie June on the main stage at 8pm in the company of the Cork Opera House Concert Orchestra, conducted by John O Brien. The Saturday programme is topped off with a DJ set by Donal Dineen at 11pm in The Green Room in Cork Opera House.
The final day of the festival sees Belfast based Mark McCambridgeâs much lauded Arborist launch their new album âA Northern Viewâ in Coughlanâs at 8pm with special guests Rowan. Cork Opera House Concert Orchestra return to the main stage in Cork Opera House for a very special evening of Traditional and Folk music curated by Cormac McCarthy featuring local Cork musicians as well as giants of the Trad world.

The curator of the Evening of Trad and Folk Music in Cork Opera House, Cormac McCarthy on working again with the Cork Opera House Concert Orchestra said âItâs a real pleasure to be working once again with the Cork Opera House Concert Orchestra on these arrangements. Itâs great to see the orchestra grow and grow over the last five years and the members are always eager to try the music of great Irish acts in a completely different light. The two concerts will showcase different genres of music, and will be a really special treat whether you like orchestral music, folk, pop rock or traditional music. These concerts are for music lovers really.
