Campervan owners, put this one on your map 🚐📍
There are campervan stopovers, and then there are places like Anderson’s Thatch Pub 😍
We found this one on Park4Night and pulled in on Friday evening planning to park up, have a few drinks in the pub and stay the night.
What we got was one of those nights you just couldn’t plan.
Anderson’s is a gorgeous old thatched pub in Co. Roscommon, run by 78-year-old Gene, who is honestly what makes this place so special.
There were two Danish couples staying in their campervans too and before long we were all sitting around together chatting. Gene pulled up a chair and joined us, his son got the guitar out, the singing started and what was supposed to be a few quiet drinks turned into a proper old-fashioned pub sing-song. 😂🍻
And Gene was right in the middle of it all.
At one point that evening he appeared with fresh eggs and handed them out to the campervans staying for the night. Then the following morning he made his way around the vans again, this time with fresh croissants and rolls for everyone for breakfast 🥹
And I think that probably sums Anderson’s up better than anything I could say about the pub itself.
Yes, it’s a beautiful old thatched pub. Yes, you can park your campervan outside and stay the night. But it’s Gene sitting down for the chats. His son playing the guitar. A sing-song with people you’d never met before. Fresh eggs handed out in the evening and Gene doing the rounds with breakfast the next morning.
That’s what makes somewhere like this worth putting on your map.
If you’re travelling around Ireland in a campervan or motorhome, save this one and send it to someone else with a van too. These are the little places worth knowing about ❤️
