Four weeks ago, we said goodbye to someone who was so much more to us than a barman.
For almost 30 years, Mick was a familiar and much-loved face behind our front bar. But to us, and to so many of our customers, he was more than that.
He was our fixer-upper, our gardener, he was our friend and he was family. He was part of the everyday life of our bar — and, over the decades, became a large part of the story of Carpenters. He was excited for our centenary next year and threatened retirement following that, although we think he’d of stayed mooching around fixing things and making sure that the pints being served in his absence were up to scratch!!
There are people who work somewhere, and then there are people who become part of its heart. Mick was very much the latter.
Four weeks on, we are still feeling his absence. The bar feels a lot different without him, and there are so many moments when we catch ourselves thinking, “He would have known how to sort that.”
We will always be grateful for the years, the laughs, the stories, the hard work, and most of all, the friendship.
Thank you for everything, Mick. You will never be forgotten.
