Let’s talk Centrifuge…
Not the flashiest piece of kit in the brewery, but quietly one of the most important. If you’ve ever wondered how we keep The White Hag beers tasting clean, bright, and consistent - this is a big part of the story.
Brewing naturally creates a mix of things in the tank: beer (the good bit), plus yeast, proteins, hop particles and other brewing solids. Those solids aren’t “bad” in themselves - they’re part of the process - but if too much of them stay in the finished beer, they can impact everything from clarity and texture to how the flavour holds up over time.
That’s where our centrifuge comes in.
A centrifuge spins beer at high speed, using gentle force to separate out excess yeast and solids before the beer moves on to packaging. Think of it as a precision clean-up step: we’re not stripping the beer of its character, we’re simply removing what doesn’t need to be there once the beer has finished doing its job in the tank.
So why do we use it? Because clarity isn’t just about looks - it’s about quality. By removing unwanted solids, we help protect flavour stability so the beer changes less over time in the can, keep the mouthfeel crisp and clean, improve consistency from batch to batch, and reduce the chance of sediment or off-notes developing. The result is beer that holds onto its fresh character - especially those bright hop aromas and flavours - for longer.
It also supports one of our biggest priorities: giving you the beer exactly as the brewer intended, whether you’re cracking it open the day it leaves the brewery or a few weeks later. Freshness and stability matter - especially with hop-forward styles - so we use modern tools like this to keep every can and every pour as true as possible.
And don’t worry - this isn’t about turning beer into something sterile. We’re still obsessing over hops, flavour, balance and bite. The centrifuge simply helps us deliver that experience with more control and consistency, without relying on shortcuts.
It’s one of those behind-the-scenes steps you’ll never see in your glass…but you’ll taste it in every sip.
