Thank you Aniko Woods and HOW TO HUNGARY for tasting the newest Barkan Single vineyard rose 2025. Hope you enjoyed it! Cheers!

Israeli rosé in Budapest? I wasn’t expecting that to be the highlight of my Friday night. Turns out the best discoveries are usually the unplanned ones.

Last night was one of those reminders to slow down for a minute. Long weekend ahead, busy week finally behind me, and a glass of something unexpected at Wine the Gap Budapest, one of my favourite little wine spots in Budapest.

Usually I’m there for one of the private tastings I bring friends and family to, but last night was simpler. Terrace, good company and a wine discovery.

The surprise was Barkan’s Single Vineyard rosé called Blush.

At first glance, you probably wouldn’t put an Israeli rosé in the same conversation as Provence, but it leans that way more than I expected. Pale pink, fresh and easy drinking with strawberry notes and a clean summery finish.

Not quite Provence. But definitely speaking the same language. Just with a different accent. 🍷

Megérkezett a Barkan dűlőszelektált 2025 rozéja, benne az egész májusi naplemente.

Illatában, ízében és színében is a könnyed és elegáns provance-i stílust testesíti meg.

Ne hagyjátok ki!

Thank you Aniko Woods and Andrew Woods (and your family) not to mention HOW TO HUNGARY coming to my wine tasting event! Hope all of you enjoyed it! 🙏❤️🍷

We booked a private Hungarian wine tasting for eight family members last night, including several people who had never tried Hungarian wine before.

Two hours later, they were debating grape varieties, planning winery trips, and asking where they could buy bottles to take home.

Andrew and I genuinely love this place.

The tasting was at Wine the Gap on Tompa utca, run by Miklos Csizmadia “Miki”, pictured here with Andrew at the start of another very successful evening of introducing people to Hungarian wine.

Miki hosts small private tastings in the afternoon and evening in a way that feels personal, relaxed, and refreshingly un-touristy.

He’s spent more than 25 years in the Hungarian wine world as a journalist, judge, and guide, so every wine comes with stories, history, regional insight, and usually a few laughs along the way. Even complete beginners feel comfortable immediately.

What makes it especially memorable is that many of the wines come directly from small Hungarian winemakers and friends of his, including bottles you often cannot find anywhere else.

It’s one of those Budapest experiences that still feels genuinely authentic.

Highly recommend if you have visiting family or friends, or if you simply want a more intimate way to discover Hungarian wine. 🍷
