Prof Jean-Robert Pitte
Presentation Title: Is the French Model of Food-Wine Pairing Adaptable to Chinese Gastronomy?
Jean-Robert PITTE, was born in1949 in Paris. He is Emeritus Professor of Géography an Land Planning at Paris-Sorbonne University (Paris IV). He has been Président of this institution from 2003 to 2008. He created in 2006 Paris-Sorbonne Abu Dhabi University. He teaches historical and cultural géography, especially about food and wine, as much as landscape and planning history. From 2010 to 2014, he has been Délegate of the Prime Minister for information and guidance about education and professions.
Jean-Robert Pitte is a member of Institut de France (Académie des Sciences morales et politiques) since 2008 and Permanent Secretary of this academy since 2017. He is President of Société de Géographie (oldest Geographical Society in the world, founded in 1821. He is Président of Mission du Patrimoine et des Cultures Alimentaires, in charge of relations with UNESCO for recognition of french gastronomical meal on the list of intangible heritages of the world. He is honnour president of Ferrières school. He is a member of Academia Europaea, of Académie des Sciences d’Outre-Mer, president of Académie du Vin de France since 2010 and member of Académie du Vin de Bordeaux, Academy of Dijon and Academie Stanislas of Nancy. He received Honoris Causa doctorates from Tel Aviv, Iasi, Tbilissi and Toronto (York) universities. He is Légion d’honneur officier, Ordre national du Mérite officier and Palmes académiques officier, Arts et Lettres commander. He received from Emperor Akihito Sunrise japanese order with golden and silver rays.
