In 1969, a 23-year-old man from Derry achieved a drinking record so extreme that it can never officially be beaten.

His name was Jack Keyes.

While in Blackpool, Lancashire, Keyes reportedly drank 36 pints of beer in just 60 minutes.

That works out at one pint every 100 seconds.

No long breaks.

No slowing down.

Just pint after pint for an entire hour.

To put that into perspective, 36 imperial pints is more than 20 litres of beer.

The feat was celebrated in the 1970 Guinness Book of Records, during an era when eating and drinking records were still treated as legitimate human achievements.

Years later, Guinness World Records stopped monitoring alcohol consumption categories because of the obvious health and safety risks.

That means Jack Keyes’ record is now permanently frozen in time.

Nobody can officially challenge it.

Nobody can officially beat it.

And considering the amount involved, that is probably for the best.

A legendary Irish record, but definitely not one to try at home.
